Max Scherzer takes the ball for the Toronto Blue Jays looking for his first winning decision since August 25, and I believe a matchup against a poor Kansas City Royals offense may be just what he needs to get back on track and record his sixth win of the year.

Blue Jays predictions for September 19

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Win goes to the Max

Max Scherzer Over 0.5 wins (+140 at BetVictor)

Both Max Scherzer and Michael Lorenzen are looking to pick up the winning decision for the first time in weeks, but all signs point to Scherzer being the guy worth betting on.

Lorenzen is 5-11 on the season, ranking in the 16th percentile in xBA, to go along with his 4.91 ERA. He is winless since July 1.

Additionally, his ERA is 6.93 over his last six outings for the Kansas City Royals.

That should be encouraging for Scherzer backers, who expect a dominant performance in the mound to be backed up with quality offense as the Toronto Blue Jays rank third in baseball with a 113 WRC+, averaging five runs per game.

Meanwhile, the Royals struggle to put runs in the board, averaging just 3.8 per game (28th), while sporting a 90 WRC+.

That won’t bode well facing off against a future Hall-of-Famer, who already beat this Royals squad earlier in the year. He threw six innings in that outing, giving up just one run on five hits while striking out five.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Max Scherzer Over 0.5 wins

Max Scherzer Over 4.5 strikeouts

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 2.5 total bases

I’ll pair Scherzer’s winning performance by taking Over 4.5 strikeouts.

He’s had five or more Ks in four of his last five outings and is averaging 8.5 K/9 innings. He also struck out five batters in his lone start against the Royals earlier this season.

For the final leg, I’ll take Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to go Over 2.5 total bases.

He’s 2-for-6 against Lorenzen in his career with an extra base hit and owns the best xBA in the MLB at .321. He also owns a .343 xBA against the four-seamer, which is Lorenzen’s most used pitch.
