Philadelphia Phillies starter Cristopher Sanchez could be due for some regression in the future, considering his underlying metrics suggest he’s been getting a little lucky.
His expected ERA is 3.48, which sits in the 48th percentile in baseball. Sanchez also allows fairly hard contact, ranking in the 47th and 42nd percentiles in hard-hit percentage and average exit velocity.
The Toronto Blue Jays’ offense has been punishing pitchers who possess similar metrics. Since May 26, the Jays are second in the league with an .815 OPS and a 129 wRC+.
The main catalyst of the Jays’ offensive burst lately has been Alejandro Kirk, who boasts a .446 batting average and an eight-game hitting streak during this stretch.
Toronto's backstop is also hitting the ball extremely hard this season, ranking in the 98th percentile in hard-hit rate and the 92nd percentile in exit velocity. I expect his bat to continue to roll today, and the value play is specifically betting on him to hit a single, considering 80% of his total hits have been for one bag.
Kirk has also recorded two hits in nine career plate appearances against Sanchez.

I’ll continue to pound the trends and take Ernie Clement to record a hit. The utility infield sports a .397 average and 1.173 OPS against lefties this season.
Lastly, let's take the alternate Over of 6.5 this afternoon. Along with the Jays' offense crushing southpaws, Toronto starter Bowden Francis was rocked for seven runs over just 1 2/3 innings in his last outing against this lineup.
I expect a relatively high-scoring game with runs coming from both sides.
