Blue Jays Picks, Predictions & Best Bets vs the Athletics for June 1

The Jays have absolutely pummeled A's pitching this weekend — and we expect that to continue today as lefty-crushing Ernie Clement gets to tee off against struggling southpaw J.P. Sears.

Ernie Clement Blue Jays best bet

The Toronto Blue Jays wrap up a four-game series against the Athletics today, having scored 31 runs through the first three contests.

Ernie Clement has been part of that barrage, and he's crushed lefties all season. With the left-handed JP Sears on the mound for the A’s, my Blue Jays predictions for today center around backing the Jays’ hitter to deliver.

Blue Jays predictions for June 1

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Clement-ime

Ernie Clement Over 1.5 total bases (+105 at BetVictor)

Ernie Clement has had a Player-of-the-Week-level run at the plate in this weekend series against the A’s, going 9-for-14 with five extra-base hits and 18 total bases in three games.

The Toronto Blue Jays' utility infielder has hit a double in three straight outings and homered in each of the first two games this series, both of which came off left-handed pitchers.

“It’s nice to have someone to I don't want to say neutralize lefties, but someone who has a fair bit of success against them,” said Jays Manager John Schneider. “He’s been really good the last couple of weeks, and he has a great approach against lefties.”

Very few players in baseball have had as much success against southpaws this season as Clement, who has an eye-popping 1.161 OPS against LHP the fifth highest in the MLB.

Starting on the mound this afternoon for the A’s is lefty J.P. Sears, who’s been rocked for 19 runs over his last three starts (for an ERA of 13.59).

Sears has also been hit extremely hard, serving up 15 extra-base hits in that stretch.

Clement’s slugging rate increases drastically (from .241 to .714) when facing a lefty on the mound. All three of his home runs this season, and 10 of his 13 extra base hits, have come against a southpaw, despite just 28% of his total at-bats being against one.

Therefore, I’m all over Clement’s total bases prop today, which is paying plus money at +105. It’s a number he’s cruised past in three straight games and I expect him to continue to crush with another lefty on the mound today.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Ernie Clement Over 1.5 total bases

Alejandro Kirk Over 0.5 singles

J.P. Sears Over 2.5 earned runs

I’ll keep backing the bats of the Blue Jays by rolling with Alejandro Kirk to go Over 0.5 singles. Kirk had 74 at-bats in May, hitting .365 with 25 of his 27 hits being singles in that stretch. Additionally, he’s hit one in seven of his last eight outings.

For the final leg of our SGP, I’ll maintain the theme of "Blue Jay offense" by taking A’s starter J.P. Sears to go Over 2.5 earned runs. The Jays' bats are on fire this weekend, hitting .393 with 18 extra-base hits, including 10 home runs. Sears has allowed 19 runs over his last three starts, including 15 extra-base hits.

So I’ll gleefully fade the A’s starter here and continue to back the scorching hot Blue Jays' bats.
