The New England Patriots will try to move closer to clinching an AFC East title when they visit the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon.

New York isn’t staying close to anyone these days, which is why I’m taking New England to cover a big spread in my Patriots vs. Jets predictions.

Keep reading to get a deeper look at this matchup in my free NFL picks for Sunday, December 28.

Patriots vs Jets prediction

Patriots vs Jets Best bet: Patriots -13.5 (-110)

Once you get into double-digit spreads in the NFL, you have to be very careful when picking favorites, as even the worst teams tend to keep some of their games close in this league.

But that hasn’t been the case for the New York Jets down the stretch, as this team has lost each of its last three games by at least 23 points.

New York is having serious trouble on both sides of the ball, struggling on offense and defense even against other weak teams.

Outside of a handful of good moments, Brady Cook has shown nothing in his first three games at quarterback, while opponents have scored 37.0 ppg against the Jets over the past three weeks.

On Sunday, all those problems will show themselves again. Only this time, the Jets will be playing one of the best teams in football, and the New England Patriots still has a lot to play for.

Drake Maye has been outstanding, the Patriots defense has been strong against all but the best offensive units, and nobody will be resting in this one with the division title and even the top seed in the AFC still in play.

The Jets aren’t going to get much of a boost at home, and even if they were, I’m not sure I’d expect them to keep this game within two scores. This game has blowout written all over it, and I’m happy to lay the points with the Patriots.

Patriots vs Jets same-game parlay

The Patriots should have little trouble moving the ball through the air against an undermanned Jets secondary. That not only has me taking the Over in my SGP, but I’ll also pick Stefon Diggs to pick up a touchdown after a highly productive game last week against the Baltimore Ravens.

Patriots vs Jets SGP

  • Patriots -13.5
  • Over 42.5
  • Stefon Diggs anytime touchdown

Our big-ticket SGP: Maye Day!

Drake Maye has thrown for Over 255.5 yards in seven of his last eight games, and the Jets are allowing 6.8 yards per passing attempt on the year.

A big day for Maye should mean good things for tight end Hunter Henry, who already has six touchdowns on the year and scored last week.

Patriots vs Jets SGP

  • Patriots -13.5
  • Over 42.5
  • Stefon Diggs anytime touchdown
  • Drake Maye Over 255.5 passing yards
  • Hunter Henry anytime touchdown

Patriots vs Jets odds

  • Spread: New England -13.5 (-110) | New York +13.5 (-110)
  • Moneyline: New England -1200 | New York +750
  • Over/Under: Over 42.5 (-114) | Under 42.5 (-106)

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
