The BYU Cougars hope that returning home tonight will help them bounce back after suffering their first loss of the season last week at Texas Tech.

To do that, though, they’ll need to contain one of the Big 12’s best quarterbacks, TCU’s Josh Hoover.

My TCU vs. BYU predictions and college football picks are banking on Hoover’s arm to be the difference on Saturday, November 16.

TCU vs BYU prediction

TCU vs BYU best bet: TCU moneyline (+128)

The BYU Cougars' perfect season came to an end last week, losing 26-7 to Texas Tech. And to be honest, the Red Raiders settled for a lot of short field goals, and that game could have easily been 46-7.

The book may be out on Bear Bachmeier, as the Red Raiders constantly applied pressure and forced him into some bad decisions. Bachmeier threw for 188 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and was held to just 4.9 yards per attempt.

The other thing we saw in that game, which has become a pattern lately, is that the Cougars have been getting burned by explosive plays. They allowed six plays of 24 yards or more in that game.

And there aren’t many players in the Big 12 more explosive than Josh Hoover. The TCU Horned Frogs QB can chuck it.

He possesses the arm talent that has NFL scouts salivating, having thrown for 2,690 yards with 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions. As a result, TCU ranks 28th in success rate on dropbacks and EPA per dropback.

With the combination of Eric McAlister and Jordan Dwyer on the outside, the Horned Frogs have the quickness on the outside that has burned BYU in the past.

And even though TCU has three conference losses, it has been on the wrong end of some tough losses, such as a punt return that cost the game against Iowa State last week. This is an undervalued TCU team with an elite QB and a solid defense.

Winning at Provo at night is always tough, but TCU is an underrated opponent against what is probably still a little bit of an overvalued BYU team. Hoover will be the difference here, and I like the Horned Frogs to pull off the upset.

All hail the Hypno Toads.

TCU vs BYU same-game parlay

Bet on both of TCU’s top wideouts to have an impact in this game. Let’s start with Jordan Dwyer. The FCS transfer has become one of Hoover’s most reliable targets this season and has really come on strong lately.

Dwyer has been targeted 29 times in the last three games, catching 21 of them for 245 yards and two touchdowns. He’s gone over 100 yards in two of those games. I’ll happily take Over 51.5 receiving yards for Dwyer in this one.

Meanwhile, Eric McAlister is the Horned Frogs' biggest deep threat. He has 834 receiving yards this season at 17.4 yards per reception, scoring eight touchdowns this season. Add him to score another touchdown in Provo on Saturday night.
