Knicks vs Hawks Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Too Hot to Randle

Julius Randle's slow start to the season may be a thing of the past as the Knicks forward has been on a tear of late. Our betting picks are eyeing him to continue this strong play against a Hawks defense that struggles to contain the opposition.

Two teams in the jumbled middle of the East playoff picture collide tonight when the Atlanta Hawks host the New York Knicks.

NBA odds have the hometown Hawks as slight one-point favorites, but they will be playing the second night of a back-to-back after beating Detroit on Tuesday.

New York has had a day to lick its wounds after getting stomped by the Celtics on Monday.

Knicks vs Hawks predictions

This will be the second of three meetings between these two teams, with the Atlanta Hawks taking the opener in front of the home fans at State Farm Arena in a 126-120 decision on Oct 27.

A balanced attack featured six Hawks players finishing in double-digit scoring, led by De’Andre Hunter’s 27 points and six boards. Dejounte Murray had 18 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, while Trae Young had 18 points and 12 dimes.

The Atlanta All-Star is questionable tonight as he missed the Hawks' 126-120 win over the Pistons on Tuesday night for the birth of his second child. Books aren’t too concerned about Young, though, already setting his scoring line at 25.5 points.

The New York Knicks were paced by Jalen Brunson, who scored 31 points and five assists, while RJ Barrett finished with 26 points and six assists. However, the Canadian has been dealing with migraines, which forced him to miss Monday’s 114-98 loss to the Celtics and he's listed as questionable in tonight's rematch.

The third starter for New York to score in double digits in the Atlanta loss was Julius Randle, who finished with 17 points, 12 boards, and nine assists. A look into his numbers and his stat-filling excellence makes him my best bet.

I don’t often consider a points-rebounds-assist total wager, but the Knicks point-forward has been putting up consistently strong numbers.

Against Boston, he went for 25 points, nine rebounds, and five assists — a tally that would have him cross his set line for this combo bet of 37.5.

In fact, Randle has crossed that number in three of his last four outings. That includes a 23-point, 16-rebound, five-assist game in a 126-105 win over the Spurs. He also tallied 27 points, 10 boards, and three assists in New York’s 111-97 win over the Clippers.

There’s more: Randle has been racking up the stats against the Hawks. The former Kentucky Wildcat has crossed this points-rebounds-assist total in eight of his last 10 games against Atlanta. He’s crossed that figure four straight times vs. ATL, with the last dud of a game at State Farm in November of last year, when he scored just eight points, with 11 rebounds and four assists. The two times Randle has missed the mark against the Hawks were games when he shot under 40%, averaging 11 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.

And this version of the Hawks remains sub-par on the defensive end, so Randle likely won't struggle to get his chances.

Since starting out slow in October, where he averaged just 15 points per game on 29.5% shooting, Randle has been on his best scoring stretch of the season, averaging 24.5 points on a more respectable 42.7%.

That bump in scoring should net you the win tonight.

My best bet: Julius Randle Over 37.5 points+rebounds+assists (-105 at DraftKings)

Knicks vs Hawks same-game parlay

Julius Randle Over 37.5 pts+rebs+asts

Jalen Brunson Under 25.5 points

Mitchell Robinson Over 7.5 points

50% boost available

Randle’s uptick in production affects players differently. We’re targeting two teammates on opposite ends of the spectrum to create a single-game parlay.

We’ll start with Brunson, who is putting up 22.6 per game, and his total against the Hawks is set at 25.5.

During Randle’s recent four-game hot stretch, Brunson has slid nicely into the No. 2 role. He scored a season-low seven points in the win over the Clippers, and went Under his total in both wins over the Spurs and Hornets.

The only game he went Over was the last contest in the blowout loss to the Celtics, clearing it by a half point. I don’t doubt he gets buckets, just not enough to crack the Over.

As for Mitchell Robinson, he was a non-factor against the Celtics, scoring on both field-goal attempts for four points in 33 minutes. Prior to that, however, Robinson had gone for eight points or more in five of seven contests.

Knicks vs Hawks spread and Over/Under analysis

This line has never hit the two-point plateau, with the spread settling at Atlanta -1.5, though you can find the spread at just a single point with a little book surfing, as I did at DraftKings.

New York is 5-3-2 against the spread this year, the sixth-best success rate in the NBA in this young season. Atlanta is 4-6-0 ATS, a Bottom-10 mark.

The total has stayed at 230 points consistently, with a few half-point and full-point jumps.

Atlanta is one of the highest-scoring teams in hoops, ranking fourth at 120.9 points per game, but New York is on the other end of things, a lowly 28th in scoring at 108.4 per contest.

Though the Over has hit just four times in the last 10 meetings between these two teams, two of those have happened in the last three games.

Knicks vs Hawks betting trend to know

Last year, the Knicks were 7-6-0 ATS with a rest advantage over their competition, and 1-0-0 ATS this season. Atlanta was 25th in the NBA a season ago with a rest disadvantage, finishing at 8-12-0 ATS. That figure is 2-2-0 ATS this season. Find more NBA betting trends for Knicks vs. Hawks.
