Shai Gilgeous-Alexander captured Round 1, but the rematch opens a fresh slate. Geoff Clark relies on the zig-zag theory to back Cleveland, while highlighting value on a rookie's 3-point prop and SGA's assist total.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored a game-high 43 points in Monday's 117-112 Thunder win, but the Cavaliers vs. Thunder prediction favors a different script in the rematch.

Oklahoma City is a 3.5-point favorite tonight at Paycom Center, with an 8 p.m. ET tip and 226.5 total. Cleveland's response could also create opportunities in a three-point prop and assist Under in our NBA picks for Wednesday, Nov. 4.

 TOP PICK
Cavaliers vs Thunder prediction: Cavaliers +3.5

Give me the Cleveland Cavaliers +3.5, down to a pick 'em, on the zig-zag theory.

This is a longtime NBA playoff handicapping system where you trade on the team that just lost in the rematch. Well, the Oklahoma City Thunder upset the Cavs 117-112 Monday in Cleveland as 4.5-point road underdogs but the market has overreacted.

With my 1.75-point home-court adjustment, the Thunder should be slight favorites at most. All-Stars Donovan Mitchell and James Harden combined to miss five free throws, despite both being 80+% shooters, while Oklahoma City outscored Cleveland 50-30 in the paint.

That shouldn't repeat against an elite Cavaliers frontcourt featuring C Jarrett Allen and PF Evan Mobley.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Cleveland's 31-to-18 assist edge on Monday highlighted superior ball movement over isolation play, making it difficult for OKC to cover the spread unless Shai Gilgeous-Alexander puts up another 40-point performance.

Cavaliers vs Thunder combo

Reminder: I’m only risking 0.25u on these combos.

But I like the way Cleveland’s offense can control the flow of this rematch. If the Cavs are moving the ball, getting Cleveland rookie Meleek Thomas clean looks, and forcing OKC to defend longer possessions, that naturally keeps Cleveland in range all night.

On the other end, I’m fine making Shai Gilgeous-Alexander do more of the heavy lifting himself. If Oklahoma City’s offense gets a little more stagnant and the supporting cast doesn’t bail him out, that helps us twice.

I don’t need anything crazy here. Just give me a cleaner Cleveland offensive game, fewer easy Thunder possessions, and a fourth quarter where the Cavaliers are still right there.

Cavaliers vs Thunder combo

  • Cleveland +3.5
  • Meleek Thomas 3+ made threes
  • Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Under 5.5 assists

Cavaliers vs Thunder player props

Cavaliers player prop: Meleek Thomas 3+ made threes

Meleek Thomas' 3+ made threes has value up to 46%.

He is starting for the injured wing Peyton Watson, and Thomas's only offensive responsibilities are to space the floor and catch-and-shoot with Mitchell and Harden creating shots for teammates. Plus, OKC's defense is allowing the fourth-highest rate of wide-open 3-point attempts.

Thomas has drained at least three 3-pointers in three of his four games this season. This isn't a fluke either. Thomas shot 41.6% from behind the arc for Arkansas in college last season and 84.3% from the foul line. The dude is just a knock-down shooter.

Thunder player prop: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Under 5.5 assists

This is just a high number for Shai to clear because he isn't a traditional point guard. Granted, he threw eight assists against Cleveland Monday but SGA has thrown for six or fewer assists in every other game this season.

The shooting around him doesn't help, either. Oklahoma City ranks just 24th in field goal percentage and 26th from three, so even when Shai creates a clean look, his teammates haven't been knocking enough of them down.

I'm not fading SGA's ability to create. I'm fading his teammates actually finishing those possessions.

That said, as long as the Under for SGA's 5.5-assist prop stays below 50%, I'm in.
