The Pistons are showing that last season was no fluke, but they face an uphill battle tonight against a balanced 76ers offense.

The Philadelphia 76ers are making all the pieces fit through the first two weeks of the season, but they're 2.5-point underdogs tonight in a heavyweight Eastern Conference clash with the Detroit Pistons.

Both teams enter with just a single loss, but my 76ers vs Pistons predictions favor Philly's superior scoring options and a red-hot Tyrese Maxey, especially with no Jalen Duren to wall off the paint for Detroit.

Take a closer look at this marquee Wednesday, Nov. 4 showdown with my free NBA picks ahead of the 7 pm ET tip-off.

 TOP PICK
76ers vs Pistons prediction: 76ers +2.5

The Philadelphia 76ers are off to a dream start with their new-look starting five. They're 3-0 SU on the road, with the Big 4 all averaging 16+ points per game, and I see the visitors banishing memories of a bad shooting night when these teams squared off in the opening week.

Though the Detroit Pistons are rolling too, Jalen Duren's absence looms large tonight, with Joel Embiid expected to be manning the middle for Philly. The 76ers are 6-0 this season when Embiid suits up, and his size advantage over the Detroit frontcourt will draw double teams that open up the floor.

These are two of the best defenses in the NBA based on the early-season sample, but Philadelphia has more perimeter playmakers to crack the code, and I'm taking the points up to 3.5 and 55%.

Covers COVERS INTEL: No one is taking better care of the ball this season than the 76ers, who are coughing up the fewest turnovers per game in the league (12.4), and that will hinder a Detroit offense that thrives in transition (17.4 FBP).

76ers vs Pistons combo

I'm backing the 76ers for a fifth straight win, with the visitors coming off an efficient win over the Chicago Bulls on Monday, and both teams have trended towards the Under this year.

It's 6-2 in Philly's eight contests and 4-1 in Detroit's past five outings. The Pistons allow the lowest FG% in the league (41.2), and the 76ers are just behind at 43.2. With Ausar Thompson tracking Tyrese Maxey, and Jaylen Brown and VJ Edgecombe in line for the Cade Cunningham assignment, look for defense to have the final say here.

With that in mind, give me the Over on Embiid's rebounds. He's averaging 9.3 RPG across his last four matchups, and he can feast on the glass against the undersized Paul Reed and John Collins.

76ers vs Pistons player props

76ers player prop: Tyrese Maxey Over 4.5 assists

Maxey has established himself as the No.1 option for the 76ers, and that should attract a heavy dose of Thompson's pestering defense here. That won't be enough to keep Maxey under wraps, but it could force him to be more of a passer, like we saw on Monday against Chicago.

He had 11 dimes that night, and his two-man game with Embiid should help to put a dent in this total. There are plenty of mouths to feed in this Philly offense, but Maxey, who averaged 6.6 APG last year, has shown a knack for picking his spots.

I'm trusting him to set up his teammates when mismatches emerge against Duncan Robinson or Kevin Huerter, and I'd play this up to 56%.

Pistons player prop: Cade Cunningham Over 2.5 threes

Cunningham's path to the rim gets tougher tonight with Embiid and LeBron James shutting off drives, so expect his 3-ball to be a key part of the Detroit offense.

He's nailed this Over in two of his last three contests, while shooting 9-for-22 from beyond the arc, and I'd bet it up to 53%.

The Pistons are generating good looks from downtown this year and sit sixth in 3-point percentage (38.1). I'm also counting on some late-clock bailout situations where Cade is left to fire away from deep.
