The Chicago Cubs are looking for a series sweep over the Cincinnati Reds at Wrigley Field on Thursday, May 7.

My top Cubs vs. Reds predictions and MLB picks expect the Chicago lineup to put too many runs on the board for Cincy to keep pace this afternoon at The Friendly Confines.

Who will win Reds vs Cubs today: Cubs -1.5 (+112)

The Chicago Cubs have the highest walk rate and second-lowest strikeout rate during their 18-3 run, and Cincinnati Reds righty Rhett Lowder brings a 7.8% K-BB% ranking 96th among the 109 starters with at least 30 innings.

Chicago is also averaging 6.05 runs per game while pacing the majors in wOBA during the highlighted heater, and with the wind blowing out at Wrigley Field, Lowder’s overmatched.

This is also a tough matchup for the Cincy lineup. Cubs lefty Shota Imanaga sports a tidy 2.40 ERA, 2.83 xERA, and 0.85 WHIP while holding opposing hitters to .524 OPS.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Imanaga generates swings on pitches outside the strike zone at the highest rate (40.9%) among qualified starters.

Reds vs Cubs Over/Under pick: Over 8.5 (-115)

I’m anticipating the scorching Chicago lineup to pile up enough runs to do the heavy lifting, with the Cincinnati bats chipping in to send this total Over the number.

The Reds have the lowest BABIP against lefties while interestingly ranking third in ISO alongside the sixth-highest walk rate. Statistical correction will connect sooner than later given the plate discipline and pop.

Plus, both teams have trended to the Over, with Cincinnati hitting in eight of its past 11 (+4.70 Units / 39% ROI), and Chicago going Over the number in 20 of the last 30 (+10.20 Units / 31% ROI).
