Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is heating up. He’s had four straight multi-hit games and aims to make it five straight tonight against New York Yankees starter Max Fried.
Fried is a terrific pitcher and has been playing well lately, but he’s been seen by this Toronto Blue Jays lineup three times already this season and has gotten hit harder and more often in each start.
His last outing saw him last 5 1/3 innings, giving up six runs on six hits and three walks. Vladdy was 2-for-5 in that game with a double and a pair of RBI.
Fried throws a variety of pitches, but his calling card is his cut-fastball, which he uses 30% of the time, 12% higher than his next used pitch.
Guerrero Jr. has solid numbers against the cutter, sporting a .362 xBA with a .702 xSLG rate. I’m banking on him pulling through this afternoon with a big hit or two in this favorable matchup to cash the Over 1.5 total bases.
