The Toronto Blue Jays' offense has come alive and has had contributions up and down the lineup over the last month.
One of the Jays’ surging bats over the last 10 games has been Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who’s hitting .369 in that stretch with an OPS of .966 while collecting an average of 2.2 bases per game.
I’ll jump on the hot bat here and take him at plus-money (+105) to go Over 1.5 total bases tonight as my best bet, as he’s done so in seven of his last 10 outings.
On the season, Guerrero Jr. has a .286 batting average. However, the Jays slugger’ underlying metrics have been remarkable.
He leads the majors with a .326 xBA, while ranking in the 97th percentile in hard hit rate. In other words, he should be hitting the ball a lot more and for more bases than he has to this point in the season.
However, those numbers are starting to point in the right direction lately, slugging .564 over his last 10 games with six extra base hits.
I expect that power to be there in tonight’s pitching matchup with the Chicago White Sox sending Davis Martin to the mound. He’s 2-7 on the season with a respectable 3.79 ERA.
However, Martin’s Baseball Savant metrics suggest he’s been very lucky through his first 14 starts. The White Sox righty ranks in the ninth percentile in xERA (5.34) to go along with his .301 xBA, with an average exit velocity of 91 mph and a 46.1% hard-hit rate.
It's safe to say that if the law of averages is starting to tilt the other way as we approach the midway point of the season, we should see a Vladdy breakout and a Martin dip tonight.

I'll ride another hot bat for the Jays and take Addison Barger to go Over 0.5 hits. He’s recorded one or more hits in four of his last five games and is batting .289 over his last 10 outings. Barger also clobbers the baseball and that should bode well against Martin, who gives up a lot of hard contact.
The Blue Jays have the top-ranked expected batting average, resulting in the third most hits in baseball in the last calendar month, averaging 9.19 per game. Meanwhile, the White Sox starter ranks in the fourth percentile in xBA.
