We’ve got a busy betting slate around Major League Baseball today, including a matchup between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles.

The Blue Jays aim for another win against the Orioles, and I think Max Scherzer will dial up a quality start to propel the club to victory.

Find out why with my Toronto Blue Jays predictions and MLB picks for this September 13 matchup.

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Scherzer spins a gem

Max Scherzer Over 0.5 wins (+110 at BetVictor)

I’m backing Max Scherzer to get back into the win column today.

It’s time he rounds back into form ahead of the final playoff stretch, and I believe a matchup against an offense he typically dominates could do just the trick. The Baltimore Orioles current lineup owns a lowly .140 batting average against Scherzer with just a .480 OPS.

Yes, his last few starts have been poor, but prior to that, Scherzer was dealing. He had a 3-0 record with a 1.80 ERA in his first four starts of August. It’s gone south since, but did show some promise once he got out of the first inning in his last outing against the Yankees, giving up just three hits while striking out eight.

This is also a fade play on O’s starter Tomoyuki Sugano, whose lost his last three decisions, while giving up four runs in each of those losses. He’s allowed 18 hits, 14 runs, and six homers over that three game stretch.

His underlying numbers are horrendous as well. Sugano owns a 5.14 xERA and a .299 xBA, both ranking in the fourth percentile among all qualified pitchers in baseball.

Sogano is also a contact pitcher who doesn’t strike guys out much, sporting a lowly 15% K-rate and a barrel rate of 11.4%, which ranks in the seventh percentile.

The Toronto Blue Jays lineup matches up really well against this profile, which explains their .300 batting average against Sugano throughout his career.

The Jays should find a way to generate offense against one of the league's worst starters, thus giving Scherzer a good shot to claim the winning decision.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Max Scherzer Over 0.5 wins

Blue Jays -1.5

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 2.5 total bases

Scherzer is a far better starter than Sugano, and Toronto’s lineup is more potent. That should lead to a multi-run victory. Moreover, the Jays have prevailed by two or more runs in five of their last six wins.

For the final leg, I’ll take Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to go Over 2.5 total bases. He’s hitting .512 over his last 10 games, averaging three total bases per game. He’s also 3-for-5 with a double lifetime against Sugano.
