Sergei Bobrovsky and, to a lesser extent, Stuart Skinner are playing solid hockey between their respective pipes. With no room for error, neither team will play loose in Game 2 as the Oilers and Panthers will once again play Under the total.

The Stanley Cup Final continues as the Florida Panthers host the Edmonton Oilers in Game 2 tonight.

With goaltending and defense stepping up for both sides, my Oilers vs. Panthers prediction expects a low-scoring affair.

See why netminders Sergei Bobrovsky and Stuart Skinner will dictate tonight's action in my NHL picks for this tilt.

Oilers vs Panthers prediction

My best bet
Under 5.5 (-110 at Sports Interaction)

My analysis

We just saw the Under cash in Game 1 with the Florida Panthers’ 3-0 victory over the Edmonton Oilers, and I believe we will see a similar result in Game 2. We know what we are getting with goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, who is one of the best in the world.

He’s now allowed two goals or less in four straight starts, going 4-0 over that stretch with a commanding .953 SV% and 1.24 GAA. There were five or fewer total goals scored in each of those four games.

While the Oilers possess a ton of offensive firepower, Bobrovsky has proven to be up to the task as he is 5-1 against them over the past six meetings with a .947 SV% and 1.68 GAA. On the other hand, Edmonton goaltender Stuart Skinner is typically a bigger question mark.

However, Skinner has been particularly dialed in since regaining the starting job at the end of the Vancouver series. He is 6-3 over his past nine starts with a .916 SV% and 1.84 GAA.

Once again going back to the trends, there were five or fewer total goals scored in six of those nine outings. The blue lines have also performed well this postseason, given that both teams rank in the Top 3 among the 16 playoff teams in expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA/60).

Yes, both offenses are also spectacular, but the defenses and netminders should once again be up for the task, especially in a tightly checked Cup Final game.

Oilers vs Panthers same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 5.5

Panthers moneyline

I expect to see a similar result in Game 2 as Game 1. In addition to the Under, there is no reason to fade the Panthers.

They are the better (and deeper) team offensively, defensively, in net, and behind the bench. Add in home ice, and the favorite should handle business in a similar fashion.

Oilers vs Panthers opening odds

  • Puck line: Edmonton +1.5 (-225) | Florida -1.5 (+185)
  • Moneyline: Edmonton +120 | Florida -140
  • Over/Under: Over 5.5 (-110) | Under 5.5 (-110)

Oilers vs Panthers moneyline and Over/Under analysis

  • Florida opened as a moderate -140 favorite and remains at that price at the time of writing.
  • I think the market will move this line in Florida’s direction, given the recency bias of the Game 1 shutout and home-ice advantage.
  • The total opened at 5.5 and also remains at that price.
  • This number won’t drop to five, but I also think it is highly unlikely that the total will go to six due to all the aforementioned variables.
