NHL Stanley Cup winner predictions 2024

The Carolina Hurricanes have been white hot since the return of Frederik Andersen, and they seem to be piecing things together at the right time. Hot goaltending is key to a long playoff run, and as long as Andersen stays healthy the Canes have a serious chance of breaking through.

Speaking of hot goaltending, no team would want to face a hot Jake Oettinger with how well the Dallas Stars are stacked in front of him. It's already been four years since Dallas last made it to the Cup Final, but this team has everything needed to get through the blood bath that is the Western Conference.

NHL playoff series odds

Team To win To win in 4 To win in 5 To win in 6 To win in 7
Islanders New York Islanders +1,000 N/A N/A +3,300 +1,800
Hurricanes Carolina Hurricanes -2,000 +155 +175 +450 +800

Give credit where it's due, the New York Islanders turned their season around at the right time and were able to secure the third spot in the Metro Division. Unfortunately for them, the Carolina Hurricanes have also amped up their play since the deadline, and to put it bluntly, they're the superior team. Ilya Sorokin may steal a game or two from the Canes, but he won't be able to steal four.

Pick: Hurricanes to win in 6 (+350)

Team To win To win in 5 To win in 6 To win in 7
Maple Leafs Toronto Maple Leafs -105 +650 +375 +425
Bruins Boston Bruins -115 +525 +375 +350

Good news Maple Leafs fans, you don't have to play the Lightning! Bad news Maple Leaf fans... you have to play the Bruins.

Boston has the superior goaltending and will be able to bully the Leafs despite Ryan Reaves' best efforts. However, the Leafs are no slouches, and they have plenty of firepower that will prolong the inevitable, only to let down their fanbase once more. But hey, Matthews is going for 70!

Pick: Bruins in 7 (+425)

Team To win To win in 4 To win in 5 To win in 6 To win in 7
Lightning Tampa Bay Lightning +320 N/A +1,500 +850 +800
Panthers Florida Panthers -400 +400 +260 +400 +450

The Panthers are good, like really good. Strong defense, capable scorers, goaltender that possesses the ability to transform into a brick wall... check, check, and check! The Cats have all that's needed for a Stanley Cup run, and the Bolts just aren't the same dominant team we've seen in recent years. Florida hockey may have a new champ in town come June.

Pick: Panthers to win series (-170)

Team To win To win in 4 To win in 5 To win in 6 To win in 7
Capitals Washington Capitals +650 N/A +4,000 +2,000 +1,400
Rangers New York Rangers -1,000 +260 +190 +350 +550

I will now ask everyone to please rise and give a round of applause for the Washington Capitals, as they now hold the honor of being the most dogshit team to grace the NHL postseason in the modern era. Need proof, then look no further than Washington's best odds in the 'series correct score' market being to win in seven... at +1,000. And if that doesn't convince you, maybe their -37 goal differential will.

Get out the brooms, boys; we got ourselves a first-round sweep.

Pick: Rangers to win in 4 (+400)

Team To win To win in 4 To win in 5 To win in 6 To win in 7
Jets Winnipeg Jets -160 +750 +425 +450 +425
Avalanche Colorado Avalanche +135 N/A +550 +400 +450

The Colorado Avalanche were amongst the top teams in the Central Division for much of the season, but somewhere in the last 10 games, they blew a tire and lost home-ice advantage in Round 1. This could be the undoing of the Avs as the Jets have Vezina favorite Connor Hellebuyck between the pipes, and he's played just a tad better than whatever the hell Alexander Georgiev has been doing.

Colorado's offense has bailed out the netminder's mediocre play for much of the season, but when things get tight in the playoffs that won't be the case.

Pick: Jets to win series (+110)

Team To win To win in 4 To win in 5 To win in 6 To win in 7
Predators Nashville Predators +220 N/A +1,400 +750 +650
Canucks Vancouver Canucks -270 +450 +280 +425 +450

The story of the Vancouver Canucks is an interesting one. From overperforming as a young team during the COVID run, stinking it up for the next few years, then nearly winning the Presidents' Trophy. I just don't buy into the hype of Vancouver and think Nashville has a real chance of pulling off the upset. Juuse Saros in the playoff atmosphere is scary hours, and Nashville has enough weapons to keep up with the Canucks.

Pick: Predators to win (+125)

Stanley Cup 2023-24 winning Conference odds

Conference FanDuel
Eastern Conference -110
Western Conference <-110>

Odds as of 4-23.

The Carolina Hurricanes (+650) have the best odds to win the Stanley Cup among Eastern Conference Contenders, while the Philadelphia Flyers (+55,000) have the worst. As for the Western Conference, the Dallas Stars (+800) stand on top while the Nashville Predators (+3,700) odds aren't as great.

I mean, let's be honest, there's a pretty damn good reason why the West is favored here. Just about every contender loaded up at the deadline, and we're about to witness a war. All of that just for the Carolina Hurricanes to pick up the scraps of whoever is left.

Pick: Eastern Conference (+100)

2023-24 Stanley Cup champion: Canadian teams vs the Field odds

Champion FanDuel
Canadian teams +255
Field -370

Odds as of 4-23.

If a Canadian team doesn't win this year, it'll mark 31 years since the feat was last accomplished, but the Edmonton Oilers (+850) have the best chance to end that drought — unlike the Winnipeg Jets (+1,500).

As much as I do love the Oilers, I can't see a world where they get through the West. I think teams like Dallas and Vegas are more prepared for a deep playoff run, and I see the Canadian drought continuing.

Pick: Field (-390)
Picks made on 4-17.
