The Florida Panthers (56%) are favored in Anaheim as they're forced to move on without captain Aleksander Barkov (again).
My Panthers vs. Ducks prediction expects Brady Tkachuk and Florida's star wingers to step up offensively against an inexperienced and high-event team.
Let's break down my favorite NHL picks for Sunday, October 4.
Panthers vs Ducks prediction: Panthers moneyline
I like the Florida Panthers to 57%.
They’ve been airtight defensively through two games, conceding a league-best 1.04 expected goals per 60 minutes of 5-on-5 play.
That’d be impressive vs. any level of competition, let alone over two road contests against the Stanley Cup winners and a high-powered offensive team spearheaded by Macklin Celebrini, who finished fourth in Hart Trophy voting.
The Anaheim Ducks have high-end talent at the top of the roster, but they lack depth. That’ll make it difficult to sustain time in the offensive zone and generate looks consistently.

Panthers vs Ducks combo
I expect the Tkachuk brothers to make some noise while leading the way for the Panthers.
Nobody on the Panthers has attempted more shots than Matthew Tkachuk through two games, and he should be even more involved as a playmaker on the power play without Aleksander Barkov in the fold.
Brady Tkachuk is a scoring-chance machine who hit the scoresheet in 69% of his appearances vs. Bottom-12 defensive teams last year, and 75% of winning efforts.
Panthers vs Ducks combo
- Matthew Tkachuk Over 0.5 points
- Brady Tkachuk Over 0.5 points

TOP PICK
Panthers vs Ducks player prop: Brady Tkachuk Over 0.5 points
I’m backing Brady Tkachuk to record his first point as a member of the Panthers, and see value to 66%.
He has six scoring chances through two games despite Game 1 coming against the defending Stanley Cup champs on banner-raising night, and losing his center in the middle of Game 2.
The Panthers had a few days off to make adjustments and practice with the new top line, which should set Tkachuk up for success in a prime matchup against the Ducks.
They play high-paced, high-event hockey and allow a ton of chances. Just three teams conceded more expected goals last season, and rugged winger AJ Greer was their only notable external addition in the off-season.
Panthers vs Ducks goal scorer: Sam Reinhart
Sam Reinhart leads Panthers forwards in time on ice and scoring chances through two games.
He’s generating looks but just hasn’t finished, which is generally not an issue for the former 57-goal man.
A pace-up spot against the Ducks should serve him well. It certainly did last season – Reinhart recorded 11 shots on goal over two head-to-head meetings, and he found the back of the net in one of them.
The Ducks are not great at defending the slot, and the Tkachuks – Brady at 5-on-5, and both on a shared power play unit – are great at funneling pucks to the net-front.
