Vikings vs Lions Best bet: Lions team total Over 29.5 (-113)
If there's one thing we know about the Detroit Lions during the Jared Goff era, it's that they roll up points at home. The Lions are third in the league in scoring (30.7 ppg) this year while ranking seventh in EPA/play.
They should move the ball against a Minnesota Vikings defense that's been exposed lately. The Vikes surrendered 419 yards and 37 points to the Chargers last week, while Jalen Hurts threw for 326 yards on 14.2 yards per attempt against them the week before.
The core of Detroit's offense has been together for years, and they know how to handle this blitz-heavy Brian Flores defense. Goff was fifth in the league in passing grade against the blitz per PFF last season and ranks eighth in that metric this year.
With the Lions scoring more than 30 points in the last five meetings between these NFC North rivals, bet on them to hit that mark again.
Vikings vs Lions same-game parlay
Since I'm betting on Detroit's offense to have a big game, it makes sense to back the Lions' No. 1 WR and top RB. Jahmyr Gibbs is a touchdown machine who has punched the ball into the endzone in 16 of his last 20 games.
Goff will rely on quick passes to beat the blitz, so expect plenty of targets for Amon-Ra St. Brown underneath. The Pro Bowl receiver has racked up more than 100 yards in three of his last four games against Minnesota, and in the other contest, he still had 77 yards.
Not only do I love the Over on the Lions team total, but I also like them on the spread. The Vikings get back QB J.J. McCarthy after a five-game absence, but I'm not sure that he's any better than backup Carson Wentz.
McCarthy threw for less than 160 yards in both of his starts, and his offensive grade of 55.5 at PFF ranks 38th among 41 quarterbacks who have at least 50 dropbacks. The Lions lead the league in defensive DVOA and should feast against McCarthy.
