Jaguars vs Bengals Best bet: Bengals -3.5 (-110)
In my early picks piece on Monday, I took the Cincinnati Bengals minus the points and said they should easily cover. I’ve not changed my stance since then, and the line hasn’t moved—so why move from my position?
The Jacksonville Jaguars played one of the worst teams in the league last weekend, but managed just 26 points against the Panthers. The Jaguars got just two touchdowns, one coming from a short field and the other after a 71-yard run by Travis Etienne. That’s despite Trevor Lawrence being hit just once and rushing for 200 yards.
Lawrence won’t enjoy that clean pocket here, not with Trey Hendrickson coming after him. And the Jaguars may end up picking up even more penalties after they drew 11 flags against Carolina.
They’re also not going to be facing an offense as inept as what they saw from Bryce Young. The Bengals struggled in their opener, especially in the second half, but there’s going to be a lot of teams that have problems with that Cleveland defense.
Joe Burrow is going to bounce back nicely against a Jacksonville secondary that, while improved, isn’t improved enough to deal with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. And if the Jaguars allow receivers to run free as they did last week, Burrow will make them pay.
There’s a history of Burrow having strong bounceback performances following a game where he’s struggled, and that’ll be the case here. Jacksonville’s inability to put together consistent drives will lead to this game getting away in the second half.
Jaguars vs Bengals same-game parlay
Joe Burrow had thrown for less than 200 yards on 14 occasions in his NFL career. He’s played the following week in 12 of those instances.
He’s thrown for 275+ yards in eight of those games, and topped 300 yards in five of them. He’s got 300+ yards in both career starts against the Jaguars and he’ll get a third here.
Travis Hunter had just 33 yards receiving in his NFL debut, but he caught six of his eight targets with one drop. He had an average depth of target of 7.3 yards as the Jaguars found creative ways to get him involved.
Cincinnati allowed four different Cleveland players to make five catches last week, and Hunter should do the same.

Ja’Marr Chase hasn’t gone consecutive games without a touchdown since the start of last season, and he’s got a history of torching the Jaguars. If Burrow’s going to have a big game, he will be heavily involved and will find the end zone at some point.
Harold Fannin Jr caught seven passes for 63 yards last week for the Browns, as the Bengals struggled to cover the tight end. That’s good news for Brenton Strange, who caught four passes for 59 yards against the Panthers and has 25 targets in Jacksonville’s last five regular-season games.
