No team looked as lost as the Commanders in Week 5, and no team looked as strong as San Francisco. Jason Logan expects more of the same in his early MNF leans.

It's tough to find a bigger contrast in public perception than the one between the Washington Commanders and the San Francisco 49ers right now.

My early  Commanders vs. 49ers prediction  NFL picks measure how the markets are treating these teams heading into their Week 6 matchup on Oct. 19.

Early Commanders vs 49ers spread pick: 49ers -7.5

Kalshi probability: 51%

The Washington Commanders have lived out of a suitcase for the first quarter of the NFL season. After opening with two road games and a trip to the UK, the Commies are now flying to Santa Clara for MNF.

Washington blew a 27-13 lead in the fourth quarter to New York, setting up Week 5’s embarrassing finish and a massive jump in competition against the undefeated San Francisco 49ers.

The Niners have been great at home, where they own the fourth-highest margin of victory for host teams. San Francisco has a Top 3 offense and faces a Washington defense that has allowed 27+ points in four straight outings.

I’ll lean toward the 49ers but would rather not lay the half-point hook on the touchdown, especially with injuries stacking up in the San Fran receivers’ room.

Early Commanders vs 49ers total pick: Under 50.5

Kalshi probability: 51%

As efficient as the Niners offense has been, the San Francisco stop unit is equally as impressive.

Through five games, the 49ers are a Top 10 defense in EPA allowed per play and opponent success rate. With a larger spread, the game script suggests Washington will play from behind and put the game on one-armed QB Jayden Daniels.

Daniels was more dangerous with his legs in Week 5, rushing for more than 100 yards, but also took five sacks in the tie with the Giants. Every hit has Commanders fans holding their breath as Daniels has a high risk of reinjuring his dislocated elbow.

The 49ers run one of the highest rates of zone coverage, and Daniels has struggled with it in his limited reps over the past two seasons. San Francisco doesn’t allow anything over the top, with the fewest explosive plays against.
