Utah vs Colorado Picks and Predictions for December 11

Utah has had a fairly disastrous campaign, and won't get any relief against a Colorado squad chasing perfection (albeit in a shortened season). Count on the Buffalo to trample in a run-focused game.

We all know it’s been a year unlike any other, and college football betting has given us quite the ride as well. Here we are with the regular season about to wrap up in the in the Pac-12, and the Colorado Buffaloes have a chance to surprise us by finishing with an unblemished record. Even that may not be enough to put them in the conference championship game, but first things first. The Buffs need a win this week in Boulder.

Here are our best college football free picks and predictions for Utah at No. 21 Colorado. Kickoff is set for Friday, December 11 at 9:30 ET.

Against the Spread (ATS) Pick

It’s been a maddening season for the Utes, who have struggled with COVID-19 issues and plenty of game cancellations. However, Utah got a much-needed win last week with a 30-24 victory against Oregon State. The Utes are now 1-2 on the year and they can thank running back Ty Jordan, who was fantastic, rushing for 167 yards and one touchdown. Quarterback Jake Bentley has been inconsistent this season but didn’t turn over the football against the Beavers. That’s a big deal.

As for the Buffs, they remain one of college football’s nice surprises this season. Colorado is coming off a 24-13 win against putrid Arizona, improving to 4-0 on the season. While quarterback Sam Noyer looks poised to do big things during his time in Boulder, running back Jarek Broussard was unstoppable against the Wildcats, posting 301 yards on the ground.

Because of the countless game cancellations we’ve all endured this year, Colorado can finish the regular season 5-0 and still not make the Pac-12 Championship game. The Buffs need a USC loss for that to happen, but they’ll be plenty motivated and should cover the number regardless.

PREDICTION: Colorado -2.5 (-110)

Over/Under Pick

Bentley has thrown for three touchdowns and four interceptions this season, so Utah’s best hope to win is to let him manage the game while Jordan does the work on the ground. The same could be said for the Buffs, though Noyer has a much higher ceiling. The Under is 4-1 in the last five meetings between these teams, and a run-focused approach for both sides means the Under is the play.

PREDICTION: Under 50.5 (-110)

Prop Pick

The Utes just haven’t shown nearly enough explosiveness on offense for me to trust them. They’re averaging only 22.7 points per game on offense, and if Bentley is forced to throw, he’s very likely going to make a mistake or two. The Utes are simply finishing their season out, and a determined Buffs team should keep them at bay.

PREDICTION: Utah team total Under 24.5 (-126)
