The UMass Minutemen are on the road and in search of their first win of the season when they visit the Akron Zips.
It hasn’t been a banner year for the Zips, either, but they’re coming off a win and sit as 10.5-point favorites in the college football odds.

UMass vs Akron best bet: Akron -10.5 (-115)
The Akron Zips are not anything near a scoring dynamo, but they’ve found better offense in recent weeks.
They just upended Buffalo 24-16, marking the third time in the last four games Akron has scored at least 24 points.
That’s a major improvement from their 18.8 average, which is weighed down by back-to-back shutout losses to start the year, and a pair of conference losses where they totaled just 10 points.
Scoring shouldn’t be a problem on Tuesday, as the UMass Minutemen have bled points en route to their current 0-8 record.
The Minutemen are surrendering a whopping 35.9 points per game, with only Kent State serving up more scoring in the Mid-American Conference.
The Zips should successfully throw it around the field, as UMass allows 256.1 yards passing (12th in the 13-team MAC).
It also doesn’t help that UMass is dead last in college football scoring, putting up just 11.5 points per contest. It's also last in total yards (253.9) and second-last in rush yards at 81.5 per contest.
UMass has lost three of its four conference games by at least 18 points, keeping it to a 7-point margin of defeat against Buffalo.
Akron will make it a fourth MAC opponent that’s hung a blowout on the struggling Minutemen in conference play this season.

If there’s one quarter that you can actually find UMass competitive in, it’s the second. Over the last four games (all MAC opponents), the Minutemen have been tied or had the lead twice and trailed by a single point once.
Only against Western Michigan, its first foray into conference play, did UMass fail to cover within that 3.5-point range.
Akron has also been outscored in the second quarter in three of its five conference games.

Akron QB Ben Finley has thrown for 235 yards or more in three of his last six starts. He should be right around that number again as he deals against the porous UMass pass defense.
One of the main beneficiaries of Finley's passes is receiver Israel Polk, who leads the Zips with five touchdowns on the year. He has three TD receptions over his last three games, and he'll be going against a pass defense that has surrendered 22 passing TDs on the year, which ranks last in the MAC.
