Two teams on two very different paths face off this evening when Florida hosts Mississippi State in its home finale. I expect those paths to be on firm display this evening as the Gators roll.

My Mississippi State vs Florida predictions and college basketball picks break down why Florida can blow this one open tonight.

Mississippi State vs Florida prediction

Mississippi State vs Florida best bet: Florida -22.5 (-110)

This Florida Gators defense ranks in the 100th percentile against almost every action the Mississippi State Bulldogs run the most.

The Bulldogs' best half-court play type is perimeter cutting, with Josh Hubbard at the head of the snake, and Florida literally has the best perimeter cut defense among power four teams.

On the other end, Florida scores 1.36 points per possession in transition, and MSU's transition defense allows 1.19 ppp. Florida gets stops and runs, and they won't slow down with an outright SEC title on the line in a sold-out home finale.

Mississippi State vs Florida same-game parlay

Josh Hubbard will do Josh Hubbard things, but beyond that, I really struggle to see many avenues for Mississippi State to score in the halfcourt. With that in mind, the first leg of my SGP is the Under.

My second leg is Rueben Chinyelu to clear his rebound total. It’s a high number, but he’s had an absurd run lately with 16 and 17 rebounds in two of his last five games. That makes this appear against a team so poor on the glass.

Mississippi State vs Florida SGP

  • Rueben Chinyelu Over 12.5 rebounds
  • Florida -22.5
  • Under 161

Our beyond the arc SGP: Pennies, nickels, and dimes

My longshot aims to thread the needle between the Gators having a very efficient offensive night, but the total still going Under.

One of the reasons Florida has vaulted itself into the title conversation is the uptick in play from Xaivian Lee. I suspect that continues in this matchup and he dishes out six dimes. MSU defends big cutters at one of the worst rates in the SEC, and he’s the primary passer on such actions.

Mississippi State vs Florida SGP

  • Under 161.5
  • Florida -22.5
  • Rueben Chinyelu Over 12.5 rebounds
  • Xaivian Lee Over 5.5 assists

Mississippi State vs Florida odds

  • Spread: Mississippi State +22.5 | Florida -22.5
  • Moneyline: Mississippi State +1800 | Florida -10000
  • Over/Under: Over 161.5 | Under 161.5
