Michigan State travels to Assembly Hall for a Big Ten showdown that is significant to Indiana's tournament hopes. That’s made the spread too short.

My Michigan State vs. Indiana predictions and college basketball picks break down why the Spartans' defensive profile matches up perfectly against Indiana on Saturday, March 1.

Michigan State vs Indiana prediction

Michigan State vs Indiana best bet: Michigan State -2.5 (-110)

The Indiana Hoosiers offense is one of the best in the Big Ten, but it's built on interior actions: ranking in the 98th percentile in both post-ups and big cut/rolls.

The problem for IU is that the Michigan State Spartans' defense is built to stop exactly that, allowing just 0.62 points per possession on post-ups and 0.87 on big cut-and-rolls. Indiana's bread and butter runs straight into MSU's defensive identity.

On the flip side, Sparty can run on IU in transition and score on them with regularity. I’d play Michigan State to -4.

Michigan State vs Indiana same-game parlay

Indiana is capable of scoring on Michigan State, but it is going to have to work deep into the shot clock to find solid looks. With that in mind, I paired the Under with my best bet for my same-game parlay.

The Michigan State defense will grind Indiana's half-court offense to a halt. The Spartans rank in the 98th percentile in defending post-ups and 93rd in defending big cut & roll, Indiana's two bread-and-butter actions.

Michigan State vs Indiana SGP

  • Michigan State -2.5
  • Under 145

Our beyond the arc SGP: This is Sparta

For my longshot parlay, I added Carson Cooper points and Jeremy Fears assists. This is really one bet disguised as two legs. Fears is Michigan State’s primary pick-and-roll passer, and Cooper is his roll man. Indiana is one of the worst teams in the country against pick-and-rolls. Every time Cooper catches a pocket pass and finishes at the rim, both legs cash at the same time.

Michigan State vs Indiana SGP

  • Michigan State -2.5
  • Under 145
  • Jeremy Fears over 7.5 assists
  • Carson Cooper over 10.5 points

Michigan State vs Indiana odds

  • Spread: Michigan State -3.5 | Indiana +3.5
  • Moneyline: Michigan State -154 | Indiana +129
  • Over/Under: Over 144.5 | Under 144.5
