The Oklahoma City Thunder are dealing with a litany of injuries to key players, and their shorthanded lineup won't be able to contend with the Rockets in Houston tonight.

Two teams looking to rebound from their first losses of the season will face off tonight as the Houston Rockets host the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Oklahoma City is dealing with a laundry list of injuries, and that's enough for me to take Houston to cover in my Thunder vs. Rockets prediction.

Keep reading to get all my free NBA picks for Saturday, Oct. 31.

 TOP PICK
Thunder vs Rockets prediction: Rockets -2.5

Both the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Houston Rockets started their seasons with winning streaks, and both are coming off their first losses of the season to the Dallas Mavericks.

But these teams are in very different positions heading into tonight's game.

The Thunder aren't at full strength, with Chet Holmgren out for a couple of months with a knee injury and Jalen Williams sidelined with an ankle issue. Throw in an injury to Alex Caruso, and Oklahoma City is digging deep into its bench right now.

Houston is at home, relatively healthy, and comes in ranked first in the NBA in offensive efficiency (119.1) this season. With home-court advantage and a depleted Thunder lineup, I like the Rockets to cover up to 55% tonight.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Rockets rank second in the NBA in offensive impact (+7.7) and true shooting (61.4%), which has allowed Houston to score 121.0 ppg this season.

Thunder vs Rockets combo

While I'm not expecting an incredibly high-scoring game tonight -- Houston tends to play slow, and the Thunder lead the NBA in defensive efficiency -- this total is too low given how effective and efficient the Rockets are on offense. I'm backing the Over as long as the total is 220.5 or lower.

One of Houston's best offensive weapons is Alperen Sengun. The sixth-year center is averaging 24.5 ppg so far this season, and has averaged 20+ ppg in two of his last three years.

Sengun has scored 23+ points in three of his first four games this season, and I'm adding him to go for 20+ to finish off my combo.

Thunder vs Rockets combo

  • Rockets -2.5
  • Over 218.5
  • Alperen Sengun Over 19.5 points

Thunder vs Rockets player props

Thunder player prop: Isaiah Hartenstein Over 9.5 rebounds

With Holmgren out long-term, we'll see a lot more of Isaiah Hartenstein holding down the paint for the Thunder. When he gets time to play, Hartenstein is a monster on the boards, and we've seen that over the past week.

Hartenstein has played 26 minutes or more in each of Oklahoma City's last three games, and that has allowed him to grab 12+ rebounds in each contest.

He'll have work to do against Sengun and a Rockets team that excels on the glass, but 10+ rebounds is a low target for Hartenstein, and I like him to hit that total at up to 60% tonight.

Rockets player prop: Kevin Durant Over 29.5 points + rebounds + assists (61%)

As long as Kevin Durant is on the basketball court, he's a threat to impact the game in every way imaginable.

Durant hasn't had a season where he averaged under 30 PRA since his rookie year with the Seattle SuperSonics (remember them?), and he's still putting up big numbers at 38, averaging 23.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.2 assists for a 32.5 PRA total this year.

If the Thunder were healthy, I might have concerns about offensive props against their potent defense, but this isn't the same Oklahoma City team with their injury issues.

I'm backing Durant to get to 30+ PRA at up to 65%.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
