The Cleveland Indians have closed the gap with the Chicago White Sox for first place in the American League Central to just 2.5 games after taking two of the first three games of their current four-game set.

Can Cleveland shrink Chicago’s lead in the division even further with another win to close the series or will the White Sox bounce back and earn a split in the finale?

Starting pitchers

Lance Lynn (6-1, 1.37 ERA): Lynn has been outstanding in his first season with the South Siders. The right-hander lowered his ERA to 1.37 and his WHIP to 0.93 his last time out by shutting out the Orioles on three hits over five innings. It was the fifth time this season Lynn didn’t allow a run but he's pitching on just three days rest today.

Jean Carlos Mejia (1-0. 0.00 ERA): Eli Morgan was supposed to start this game but he was scratched late Tuesday night and Mejia will get the nod in his stead. The 24-year-old righty is making his first career MLB start and has a grand total of five major league innings under his belt — which came across three relief appearances over the last two weeks.

Moneyline pick

Cleveland was able to hold on for a 6-5 win in last night’s game. It was the third time in the last four games that Cleveland was able to plate six runs but that could be a little tougher against Lynn.

The right-hander has looked unhittable at times this season and is in a real groove right now. Lynn is pitching to a 0.96 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP and is limiting opponents to a .139 batting average over his last five starts.

He now goes up against a Cleveland lineup that ranks 27th in batting average and 22nd in OPS when it comes to hitting off right-handers this season.

Meanwhile, Cleveland travels into the great unknown with Mejia getting his first career Big League start against a White Sox team that ranks second in scoring, fourth in batting average and sixth in OPS.

Even though the Pale Hose have dropped two of the first two games of this series they are still the much better team in this matchup with a huge edge in starters and lineups. This price is a steal for the White Sox — bet them with confidence.

PREDICTION: White Sox (-155)

Over/Under pick

After last night’s game, the Over has gone 5-2 in the last seven meetings in this AL Central rivalry and this game has a good chance to keep that trend going.

First of all, it starts with the matchup between the White Sox and Mejia. The right-hander has mostly thrown a sinker and fourseamer, complemented by a slider and changeup, through his early MLB outings, giving up just one hit and one walk with seven strikeouts over his first five innings.

It's unknown how his stuff will translate over three-to-five innings, and if he falters, a White Sox team that plates 4.94 runs per game against right-handers will take advantage.

Second, even though Cleveland has struggled at the dish this season, it has been scoring a bit more lately, putting up 4.08 runs per game over their last 12 contests. And while Lynn is outstanding, the White Sox’s bullpen has been shaky at times and ranks 22nd in opponent batting average this season.

It feels like Chicago will do a little more in this one and Cleveland will do just enough to send this one just above this number.

PREDICTION: Over 8.5 (-110)
