The Astros have been the most anemic lineup in baseball the past week, while Ronald Acuna Jr. is in white-hot form. I’ll happily back the Braves as a road dog.

The magic number for the Atlanta Braves to win the NL East is just three heading into tonight, and they can take a huge step toward that goal with a win over the Houston Astros (56%) at Daikin Park.

My Braves vs. Astros predictions and MLB picks explain why the wrong team is favored in this matchup on Saturday, Sept. 19. First pitch live at 7:10 p.m. ET.

Who will win Braves vs Astros today: Braves (45%)

For help understanding probabilities, see our odds calculator.

The Houston Astros should not be favored by this much simply as the home team.

Over the past week, this Houston team ranks dead last in hard-hit rate (26.6%), BABIP (.190), and line drive rate (11.5%). The fact the Astros lead the league in ISO (.242) in that span simply reinforces their current all-or-nothing outcome at the plate.

Over his last four starts, Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Grant Holmes has posted a 5.3% HR/FB rate behind a devastating slider. He's also found a way to befuddle opponents despite a K% of just 13.9%.

The Braves have the more balanced, consistent lineup and present terrific value up to 51%.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Over his past four starts, Grant Holmes has utilized his slider 32.2% of the time, with the pitch registering a 5.48 RAA/100 mark. That ranks fourth among all SP with 40+ batters faced in that span.

Braves vs Astros Over/Under pick: Under 8.5 (48%)

Astros starter Hayden Wesneski has yet to surrender a dinger in 22 IP at Daikin Park, with a home BABIP sitting 50 points below his road mark. He's also avoiding barrels, with a 25.8% soft contact rate in his last four starts.

He will keep Atlanta's lineup at bay long enough to keep this total low. The Braves will get runs off the Houston bullpen as they did on Friday, when they scored four of their six runs after the departure of SP Peter Lambert.

Atlanta's pen over the past month ranks ninth in HR/FB rate and hard-hit rate, and will limit Houston's ability to tack on late runs.

Play this to 50%.

Braves vs Astros home run prediction: Ronald Acuna Jr. (21%)

Ronald Acuna Jr. is heating up at just the right time for the Braves. He's slugging .672 in September, with a 43.6% hard-hit rate and a 24% HR/FB mark.

Most impressively, he's doing this while posting an opposite-field rate of 36.4%, which ranks seventh among all qualifying hitters this month. That strongly indicates how well he's seeing the ball.

He's driven one into the outfield seats in three of his last six games and offers strong value compared to Yordan Alvarez (26%) and Matt Olson (24%).
