2025 MLB Home Run Derby field and favorites

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh opened as the +370 second-choice for the Home Run Derby, but is now the +300 favorite over Pittsburgh Pirates superstar Oneil Cruz, who remains at +330.

Ronald Acuna Jr., a two-time runner-up in this competition and the only player with any Home Run Derby experience, dropped out in favor of teammate Matt Olson (+900) after experiencing back tightness late last week.

2025 MLB Home Run Derby rules

Round 1

  • Batters have 3 minutes or 40 pitches (whichever comes first).
  • Once time expires, a bonus round begins with no time limit but only three outs — any swing that doesn't result in a home run counts as an out.
  • Bonus boost: Any homer hit 425+ feet earns one extra out in the bonus round.

Semifinals & Finals

  • Rounds are shortened to 2 minutes or 27 pitches.
  • Bonus round rules stay the same as Round 1.
  • In the event of a tie, a 60-second swing-off takes place.
  • If still tied, batters move to three-swing sudden death rounds until a winner is declared.
