What better way to celebrate Canada Day than with a grand slam? George Springer lit up the holiday with a bases-loaded blast to help the Toronto Blue Jays take down the New York Yankees—again.

With the win, Toronto now trails New York by just one game in the AL East. Looking to ride the momentum and pull even at the top, the Jays turn to their most consistent arm, José Berríos, for the series finale.

My Blue Jays predictions break down the right-hander’s hot streak and bring you the best bet and MLB picks to go along with it.

Blue Jays predictions for July 2

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Berrios brings the heat

Jose Berrios to record a win (+200 at BetVictor)

George Springer drove in a ridiculous seven runs, including four on that grand slam, leading the Toronto Blue Jays to a 12-5 win over the New York Yankees.

The Blue Jays now trail the Yankees by just one game in the AL East, and they’ll try and win the series and pull even with the Bronx Bombers in one fell swoop on Wednesday.

And they’ll put their best foot forward in that attempt by handing the ball to Jose Berrios. The veteran right-hander has not only been the team’s most reliable starter, but also one of their hottest.

Outside of getting shelled by the Philadelphia Phillies back on June 15, Berrios has allowed just one earned run over his other five previous starts. Even when you include the tough outing against the Phillies, he still has a 1.66 ERA and a 2.98 FIP over those six starts. He is also limiting opponents to a .191 batting average during that period.

Berrios also has solid numbers against New York. Current Yankees batters have combined for a .247 expected batting average and a 28% strikeout rate. And frankly, almost all of that damage has been done by Aaron Judge.

I expect the Blue Jays to take the bat out of Judge’s hands once again tonight after already walking him five times in this series, three of them being intentional. Berrios also held the Bombers scoreless through 5 1/3 innings on just five hits back on April 25 at Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees counter Berrios with rookie Will Warren. The 26-year-old has shown flashes of potential but hasn’t really faced a tough lineup for a while.

As with a lot of young pitchers, Warren deals with command issues and compensates for that by finding too much of the plate. As a result, he ranks in the 11th percentile in average exit velocity and ninth in hard-hit percentage.

This scrappy Jays lineup will hand Berrios a lead, and he’ll hand it off to a bullpen with rested high-leverage guys, earning Berrios his fifth win of the season.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Jose Berrios to record a win

Giancarlo Stanton Under 0.5 hits

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 0.5 RBI

One of the Yankees who won’t be looking forward to seeing Berrios is Giancarlo Stanton.

The Yankees DH jas just a .183 expected batting average with a .229 expected slugging in his first 12 games back from the injured list. Stanton is also whiffing a lot with a strikeout rate of 31.9%. He’s also just 2-for-15 with eight strikeouts in his career vs. Berrios.

Meanwhile, one of the Blue Jays who’ll help provide the lead will be, of course, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Vladdy had a quiet Canada Day, but don’t expect that to last long. Guerrero still ranks in the 100th percentile in XBA and the 92nd in xSLG. His natural power should play well against Warren.
