Kathy Hochul as the main obstacle, since passing a bill she won't sign is a hard sell. Her office has only said she'll review any legislation that reaches her desk. Addabbo says it's a matter of when, not if, and plans to keep filing the bill, so the next real shot is 2027.
- It's not a real money online casino in New York, but it is a step forward. The first live casino in 400 years in NYC, Resorts World New York City, opens April 28 with over 240 table games and 2,500 slots. Providing 2,200+ new jobs and an expected windfall in new tax revenue, the first of three downstate live casinos in NY could be precursor to a renewed push for real money online casinos.

- Is New York ready to have a more serious discussion about real money online casino legalization? Now that Gov. Kathy Hochul has signed Senate Bill 5935 banning dual currency casinos, Sen. Joseph Addabbo, long a proponent of online casinos in NY, feels the time may be right to push the agenda in 2026.
- If the next step toward real money online casinos in NY is having live casinos within New York City, the state is one step closer today. The New York Gaming Facility Location Board approved the three expected casino bids that will bring billion-dollar gaming centers to downstate NY.
