The A's will have more success against Yankees starter Ryan Weathers than the New York bats will against Jeffrey Springs.

The New York Yankees and Athletics wrap up a three-game series with perhaps the most interesting pitching matchup of the set.

It’s a battle of southpaws as Jeffery Springs takes on Ryan Weathers. The Yankees may have the better lineup, but the A's have the better starter today.

My A's vs Yankees predictions and MLB picks break down why this should be a closely contested matchup on Thursday, April 9.

Who will win A's vs Yankees today: A's +1.5 (-122)

Jeffrey Springs has been elite through two starts, but the full picture requires context.

His 2025 season paints a picture of a hurler who was solid but nothing more. Perhaps he’s regained his form in 2026, and I'm intrigued by what we’ve seen with an expected era of 3.10.

Historically, Springs has limited damage. His career 3.61 ERA across nine seasons tells you he consistently keeps games close even when he is not at his best.

On the other hand, I am not high on Ryan Weathers, and I don’t think the New York Yankees are either, which is why he's more of a stopgap while the rest of the rotation gets healthy rather than an everyday guy.

The lefty doesn’t get ground balls, and historically has a Bottom 30 percentile chase rate, is a pitcher against whom a potent A's lineup can succeed.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Yankees posted a 114 wRC+ against left-handed pitching in 2025, ranking among the best in baseball.

A's vs Yankees Over/Under pick: Over 8 (-115)

The Yankees have shown some excellent plate discipline, which makes them pretty much a daily Over bet, but there are also specifics to like about this matchup.

The Yankees have five hitters with .375 or higher xwOBA against Springs in 20+ plate appearances, and his low-velocity fastball against a lineup that posted a 114 wRC+ vs LHP last season is a matchup where he probably manages things but allows some runs to plate.

Both starters will give up something here. I made this total exactly 9.
