Liverpool vs Tottenham predictions

Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.

Side analysis

The visiting Spurs are in a battle with North London rivals for the fourth spot in the Premier League, which would guarantee them a slot in the Champions League next season.

Spurs enter the weekend just two points back and a win here would really pile the pressure on the Gunner ahead of next week’s North London derby. By now, we all know about Liverpool’s potential fate. The Premier League title race between Manchester City and Liverpool has been incredible, with both sides pushing each other harder and creating a title race that will long live in memory.

Coming into this week's game, there is just one point splitting the two teams after 34 matches. It’s Pep Guardiola’s Man City who has the slight advantage but they don’t play until Sunday against Newcastle, meaning three points for Liverpool here would, for one day at least, give them the lead.

Both Liverpool and Man City come into this game week following tough Champions League semi-final fixtures midweek, but it’ll be Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool who was the happier side as they sealed a spot in the final against Real Madrid, despite a terrible first half against Villarreal.

Villarreal’s performance in the first 45 minutes of Tuesday’s game will give opposition managers a blueprint in hope that they can take points off this Liverpool team who have started to get that near-invincible feel that the great teams possess. Luis Diaz has to start this game for Liverpool, as he’s been majestic when called upon and again midweek he emphasized why he needs to be starting in all of Liverpool’s big games from now on.

He’ll play alongside Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in that devastating front three. Klopp will also likely bring Jordan Henderson back into the team to replace Naby Keita, and potentially Joel Matip back into the backline to partner Virgil van Dijk.

Besides that, it’ll be the same team who started against Villarreal but it’s essential they start better or this really could be a potential banana skin in their Premier League title hunt. One thing Antonio Conte knows is how to grind out results on the big stage and this is the sort of game that the Italian lives for.

I’m expecting big things of Tottenham on Sunday who, besides Liverpool, have arguably the best front three in the league, with Son Heung-Min, Harry Kane, and Dejan Kulusevski playing at an exceptional level. Aside from the front three, a lot of Spurs’ hopes will ride on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur, who’ll need to disrupt the passing of Fabinho and Thiago, as Villarreal did in the week.

Liverpool are rightfully the bookies' favorites for this game with odds of -223, implying a 69% chance that they get the three points. I’m a little worried for them ahead of this game, which I really think could be one that plays a huge part in the outcome of this season’s Premier League title race.

Conte has proved time and again that he is capable of playing massive teams and putting up great results. Back in the middle of February, he masterminded a 3-2 victory over Man City at the Etihad and I feel like we could see something here. Ultimately, Liverpool has so much firepower that it’ll be hard to keep them out, but a draw at +390 looks like a very interesting play.

Prediction: Draw (+390 at FanDuel)

Over/Under analysis

We know all about Liverpool’s high-scoring ways but I’ll be taking Under 2.5 goals here.

Firstly, this is a Liverpool team who know they’re on the verge of something historic and they have looked slightly cautious at times, including that game midweek. They started that game very cagily and I expect similar here.

When it comes to Tottenham, we know how effective they can be at keeping road games low scoring, with 52.9% of their games away from their home field having Under 2.5 goals. I’m expecting this to be a lot tighter than the sportsbooks believe, so I’ll grab the Under right now.

Prediction: Under 2.5 (+120 at bet365)

Best bet

Okay, stick with me here.

It may be +1800, but I think there is real value in a small wager on Spurs to be leading at halftime and for the game to be a draw at full-time.

If you believe like me that this is a potential banana skin for Liverpool, then it makes sense given their poor start in midweek and some of the fast starts we’ve seen from Spurs during the season.

Villarreal got out of the traps early against Liverpool and it’s something we’ve seen Spurs do to great effect in the past, most notably against Man City in that incredible 3-2 victory. In their past 10 Premier League games, Spurs have scored eight times in the first half and with Kulusevski, Kane, and Son on the field, there’s every chance they do it again.

Pick: Tottenham/Draw (halftime/full-time) (+1,800 at bet365)
