Expert NHL moneyline picks: October 10
Flyers vs Bruins pick:
Bruins
The Bruins are coming off a 6-1 victory over Utah and now face a winless Flyers team scoring just 1.20 goals per game while allowing 3.80 per night. Boston also owns the clear goaltending edge, with Jeremy Swayman posting a .932 save percentage and 1.98 GAA.
Against a Philadelphia offense struggling to generate much of anything, I’m backing the Bruins at 55%.
Canucks vs Devils pick:
Devils
The Devils are a big favorite here despite winning just once, and Vancouver’s horrible goaltending is a major reason why. The Canucks are allowing 5.00 goals per game, 30th in the NHL, while Kevin Lankinen gets the start with a 7.06 GAA.
New Jersey also enters on three days’ rest and has been generating plenty of offense despite the results, averaging 38 shots per game. With the Devils holding the fresher legs and a massive edge in net, I’m comfortable backing New Jersey.
Oilers vs Sharks pick:
Oilers
The Oilers sit second in the NHL in scoring at 5.5 goals per game and should have fresh legs after a couple of days of rest. San Jose is off to a 3-1-0 start, but its underlying numbers haven't been nearly as impressive, with just a 41.9% even-strength shot-attempt share.
Macklin Celebrini has also missed the last two games and remains a game-time decision with a lower-body injury. Even if he returns, Edmonton has been driving play far more effectively. I’ll take the Oilers at 59%
Wild vs Panthers pick:
Wild
Both teams have struggled offensively, averaging under three goals per game, but Minnesota has value as an underdog. Florida is without Brad Marchand and Aleksander Barkov, leaving its attack shorthanded. The Wild have also allowed just 2.00 goals per game, while Jesper Wallstedt owns a .927 save percentage.
In a matchup that should stay tight, I like Minnesota.
Blue Jackets vs Blues pick:
Blues
Columbus is coming off a shootout win over Pittsburgh, but the Blue Jackets now travel to St. Louis on zero rest. That creates a difficult turnaround against a Blues team with the fresher legs and strong goaltending. Joel Hofer has been excellent so far, posting a 1.68 GAA and .930 save percentage.
With the schedule advantage also favoring St. Louis, I’ll back the hosts.
Hurricanes vs Blackhawks pick:
Hurricanes
The Hurricanes haven't been at their best, but this is a favorable spot against a Blackhawks team with just one win while allowing 4.2 goals per game. Carolina still ranks Top 10 in scoring and has limited opponents to 2.8 goals per contest.
Against a Chicago offense averaging only 2.0 goals per night, I’ll back the visitors.
Predators vs Senators pick:
Senators
The Senators are dealing with a long injury list, but I’m still comfortable backing them because of the edge in net. Linus Ullmark owns a 1.13 GAA and perfect 3-0-0 record, while Nashville has struggled to find consistent offense.
Juuse Saros hasn’t been nearly as sharp for the Predators, giving Ottawa the more trustworthy goaltending situation.
Mammoth vs Sabres pick:
Mammoth
The Mammoth have been the more consistent team overall, and this matchup sets up well for their offense against a Sabres squad ranking 24th in goals allowed. Utah also owns the NHL’s No. 1 power play, while Buffalo sits 28th on the penalty kill.
That special-teams mismatch could be the difference, so I’ll back the Mammoth.
Red Wings vs Canadiens pick:
Canadiens
Detroit has actually driven play well, but this is a difficult spot on the second night of a back-to-back.
The Red Wings travel after allowing six goals Friday and will turn to Daniil Tarasov for his season debut. Montreal has struggled defensively, but it’s averaging 3.50 goals per game and has the fresher legs at home. I’ll side with the Canadiens.
Stars vs Penguins pick:
Stars
Dallas has allowed just 1.50 goals per game, and the goaltending has been phenomenal, with Jake Oettinger posting a .967 save percentage and 0.67 GAA. Pittsburgh also played Friday and was outshot 45-22 by Columbus despite forcing overtime.
With the Stars rested and owning the much more reliable defensive setup, I’ll back Dallas on the road.
Maple Leafs vs Avalanche pick:
Avalanche
Colorado continues to light up the scoreboard, averaging an NHL-best 5.75 goals per game while converting 30.8% of its power-play opportunities. Toronto has been far less dangerous offensively at just 2.80 goals per night.
The Leafs are certainly capable of making this competitive, but the Avalanche have been the more complete team.
Lightning vs Islanders pick:
Lightning
Ilya Sorokin has been fantastic for New York, but Tampa Bay has controlled play far more consistently. The Lightning own a 57.1% even-strength shot-attempt share and 58.0% 5-on-5 expected-goal share, compared to just 44.9% and 49.9% for the Islanders.
Sorokin could keep this close, but Tampa’s territorial advantage has me backing the visitors.
Ducks vs Flames pick:
Ducks
Anaheim is on the second night of a back-to-back, but Calgary has given me very little reason to trust it. The Flames are 0-4-0, scoring only 1.50 goals per game while allowing 5.75, and their team save percentage sits at an ugly .800.
Anaheim just beat Winnipeg 5-1, and I’ll ride the Ducks despite the rest disadvantage.
Kings vs Golden Knights pick:
Golden Knights
Vegas has been far more convincing to begin the season, scoring 4.20 goals per game while allowing only 2.60. The Golden Knights also own a 60.2% 5-on-5 expected-goal share, while Los Angeles remains winless and has surrendered 5.00 goals per contest with an .817 team save percentage.
The Kings have fresh legs, but Vegas is still my pick.
Today's NHL moneyline combo
I like this combo because all three legs are built around clear matchup advantages.
Edmonton brings one of the league’s best offenses into a favorable spot against San Jose, while Boston owns the stronger defensive and goaltending profile against the winless Flyers.
Carolina is the leg I trust most. The Hurricanes still rank among the NHL’s better scoring teams, and Chicago has been poor at both ends of the ice. All three favorites have a clear path to controlling their respective matchups.
