Utah's defense will lead the way to another emphatic win on Saturday against Kansas, per our college football expert.

Utah (-16.5) will look to move to 5-0 as they host Kansas at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Saturday night.

The Utes have been smothering on defense, and my Kansas vs. Utah predictions are backing them to ride that unit to a cover.

Read on to get a look at all my free college football picks for October 10.

 TOP PICK
Who will win Kansas vs Utah: Utah -16.5

On the surface, this game looks like a battle between the Kansas offense, which is averaging 496.8 yards and 36.0 points per game, and the Utah defense, which ranks Top 3 is yards allowed per play (3.9) and ppg allowed (10.2).

But the Jayhawks don't look nearly as good on a play-by-play basis, averaging 6.6 yards per play (35th in the nation). They've also padded their stats against weaker opponents, averaging only 19.0 ppg in losses to Arizona State and Missouri.

On the other hand, the Utah defense is real, ranking in the Top 10 in defensive EPA allowed per play (-0.20) while allowing 0.82 yards per drive. The Utes have also scored 31+ points in each of their first four games.

Utah will shut down Kansas at home, and I like the Utes to cover at up to -19.5.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Despite some impressive offensive numbers, Kansas ranks 63rd in adjusted EPA per play on offense at -0.01.

Kansas vs Utah Over/Under pick: Under 51.5

Utah has yet to allow more than 17 points per game. The Iowa State Cyclones put up that number against the Utes in their last game, but even then Utah forced two turnovers and held the Cyclones to 316 total yards.

Utah allows opponents to complete only 46.9% of their passes, which will clamp down on any explosive plays out of Isaiah Marshall and the Kansas passing game, which ranks outside of the Top 100 in completion percentage (57%).

Kansas hasn't been bad on defense, holding opponents to 17.0 ppg, and Utah has played to the Under in each of its last three contests. That's enough for me to think this game won't get completely out of control when the Utes have the ball against a legitimate Power 4 defensive unit.

I'm taking the Under here, and would back it down to 49.5 points.

Kansas vs Utah combo

Utah's defense will allow it to cover the spread while still hitting the Under, as it has played below this total in each of its last three games.

With the first half spread below 10 points, I'm also adding the Utes to cover the first half spread for my combo. They have held leads of at least 21 points in each of their first four games, and I don't see Kansas doing enough offensively to change that trend on Saturday.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
