Kings vs Oilers Predictions, Picks, and Odds for Tonight’s NHL Playoff Game

Traditionally, refs will keep the whistle in their pockets during an elimination game. The Kings have outplayed the Oilers at 5-on-5 through the series, and betting expert Josh Inglis breaks down how that might affect Game 5 in Edmonton.

The Los Angeles Kings face elimination this evening vs. the Edmonton Oilers, but the 3-1 series deficit doesn't show how competitive LA has been. The Kings thoroughly outplayed the Oilers in Game 4 but couldn't find the net in the 1-0 shutout.

Following that donut, my Kings vs. Oilers predictions identify one standout Los Angeles player in a sea of shooting props to choose from. Despite coming up short so far, the Kings offense will be looking to get pucks on the net and keep this game at 5-on-5, where they’ve posted the second-best shot attempt differential of all playoff teams.

Let's dig in with my NHL picks for Wednesday, May 1.

Kings vs Oilers prediction

My best bet
Kevin Fiala Over 2.5 shots on goal (-145 at SIA)

My analysis

Kevin Fiala leads the Los Angeles Kings in shot attempts/60 this series and has hit the Over on 2.5 shots on goal in each game of the series. His time on ice is close to 19 minutes, which is over his season average. He is taking 7.6 shot attempts per game and is coming off the shutout loss and facing elimination. There should be a ton of shooting opportunities for the Kings' top skaters tonight.

Fiala is paying -145 to get three or more shots and that’s down from -125 this morning. It's a big move but even the alt-Over at 4+ shots at +170 is live.

I understand that many don’t like to pay the juice and if that describes you, Trevor Moore Over 2.5 shots at -110 is the next best bet considering the price. He is the shooter on the second power play but each forward should see a lot of 5-on-5 time as penalties are fewer and further between in elimination games.

I like the Kings at +160 on the moneyline tonight but the best information that isn’t priced into this series has been the Kings’ ease at getting shot attempts. The market is moving on Fiala but it’s still worth it at -145.

This game should see plenty of 5-on-5 time where the Kings have been the better team. Edmonton might not have the power play to bail it out as it has eight goals with the man advantage in the series. More 5-on-5 time gives a better edge to the visitors and their shooters.

Kings vs Oilers same-game parlay (SGP)

Kings moneyline

Under 6.5

This should be a game that resembles the 1-0 Edmonton win as opposed to the 6-1 final from Game 3. The Oilers have scored eight power-play goals in the series and because this is an elimination game, the referees should put the whistles away. That gives a big advantage to the Kings who were the better team in Game 4 despite the outcome. If this game is played at 5-on-5, the Kings have a great chance to extend the series in a low-scoring tilt.

Kings vs Oilers opening odds

  • Puck line: Los Angeles +1.5 (-155) | Edmonton -1.5 (+125)
  • Moneyline: Los Angeles +155 | Edmonton -190
  • Over/Under: Over 6.5 (-110) | Under 6.5 (-110)

Kings vs Oilers moneyline and Over/Under analysis

  • The Kings have moved as high as +160 on the ML but it's been the total that has seen the most movement. It opened at 6.5 but has since moved to 6 at most books.
  • Edmonton closed as a -180 home favorite in Game 2 with a total of 6.
  • The Edmonton power play is 8-for-15 so far in the series while the Kings are 0-for-11 through four games.
  • Neither team is dealing with injuries.
  • Stuart Skinner is expected to start for the Oilers in net while the Kings will go back to David Rittich who was the tough-luck 1-0 loser in Game 4.
