Are the Jacksonville Jaguars finally turning the corner?

Jacksonville is now 4-1 after a resume win over the Chiefs on Monday, but now has a short week to prep for the Seattle Seahawks in a Week 6 non-conference clash.

I measure and weigh the NFL odds and give my early Seahawks vs. Jaguars predictions and NFL picks for October 12.

Early Seahawks vs Jaguars spread pick: Seahawks +1.5 (-115)

A short week and a potential letdown spot put the Jacksonville Jaguars against the wall. Jacksonville won on Monday but needed to catch a few breaks to edge Kansas City.

The Jaguars scored a pick-six, benefited from some uncharacteristic poor penalties on the Chiefs, and somehow scored a go-ahead touchdown on a QB keeper despite Trevor Lawrence stumbling behind the line of scrimmage.

As for the Seattle Seahawks, they sit right up there with Kansas City as the most impressive losers from Week 5. Seattle came out on the wrong side of a shootout with Tampa Bay, due to a costly INT from Sam Darnold late in the game.

The Seahawks still amassed 27 first downs, went 7-for-10 on third/fourth downs, totaled 463 yards, and were a perfect 4-for-4 in the red zone. And they did all of that in just 26:48 worth of possession time.

I’m leaning toward the road dog in this NFC vs. AFC affair.

Early Seahawks vs Jaguars total pick: Over 46.5 (-110)

-110 at FanDuel

The look-ahead total for this game was 44.5 points before the Week 5 results. This will mark Jacksonville’s fourth straight run-in with a quality stop unit, as the Seahawks still sit among the Top 10 defenses in many metrics.

The Jaguars have amassed 74 total points against Kansas City, San Francisco, and Houston, but 12 of those tallies came either on a 99-yard INT for a touchdown or an 87-yard punt return score.

Seattle is very stingy against the run, which is something the Jags have leaned into at the 11th-highest rate through five weeks.

Jacksonville head coach Liam Coen uses the ground game to set up his RPO and play-action playbook. That could leave Lawrence without misdirection against a Seattle pass rush scoring great pressure with just the front four.

Jacksonville’s stop unit has quietly been the heart of this strong start. The Jaguars are rolling out zone-centric coverage and making game-changing plays, with a league-high 14 takeaways — 10 on interceptions.

I feel like both of these defenses can make plays to snuff out drives, and I’m leaning Under 46.5 points in Week 6.
