Two teams coming off games where they blew a double-digit lead will face off on Thursday Night Football, with the Giants playing host to the Eagles.

New York comes in as a 7.5-point underdog for the game, which is the biggest underdog they've been up until this point of the season. We also have a total of 41.5, which is the lowest number all season for an Eagles game.

Despite the ugly losses last week, my early Eagles vs. Giants predictions and NFL picks have the visitors bouncing back in a big way on Thursday, October 9.

Eagles vs Giants predictions

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early TNF spread pick: Eagles -7.5

The Philadelphia Eagles had six double-digit wins last season and ranked second in average scoring margin at +10.9. Through five games in 2025, they’ve yet to win by more than seven and have an average scoring margin of +3.2.

I think a big difference in 2025 is that their level of competition has been really high so far, as they’ve yet to play a team that would be considered “really bad.”

Enter the 1-4 New York Giants, who are coming off a 12-point loss to another really bad team in the New Orleans Saints, in a game where the Giants had five turnovers.

Self-inflicted wounds have been a theme of the Giants’ season as they’re averaging the most penalty yards per game in the NFL while ranking 29th in turnover differential.

The “new car smell” of high-energy QB Jaxson Dart might also be wearing off already after a two-interception performance in New Orleans. He’s been sacked six times already this season and ranks 37th in yards per completion.

While the Eagles are showing plenty of cracks early on and the stats aren’t very pretty, Dart will easily be the worst quarterback they’ve faced up until this point of the season. The same claim can also be said about the Giants' rush defense, which ranks 29th in yards per rush attempt allowed and 24th in opponent third-down conversion percentage.

While much has been made of Saquon Barkley’s slow start, he’ll have no shortage of motivation against his former team, while the rest of the Eagles should be eager to get back on track after suffering their first loss of the season against the Broncos last week.

Early TNF total pick: Under 41.5

Four of the Giants’ five games this season have stayed below 40 total points, while neither of these teams is producing glowing offensive statistics, so I think a lower-scoring game is more likely on Thursday night.

One positive that each defense shares is strong play in the red zone. The Eagles come in at third in opponent red zone touchdown scoring percentage, while the Giants are a respectable 11th. Scoring when in close, however, has been a major issue for New York as they rank dead last in red zone offense this season.

While field goal attempts are more likely than touchdowns for the Giants in this matchup, expect to see them punting a lot as well, as their offense comes in at 30th in third down conversion percentage. The Eagles are 10th in that category defensively.

It wasn’t long ago that the Eagles' defense was viewed as one of the league’s best, and I think they’ll use this matchup to prove to themselves that they’re still among the elite. That, combined with a clock-draining rush attack vs the weak Giants’ run defense, should keep the scoring down in this battle of division rivals.
