Toronto’s debut exposed some major offensive concerns, and the underlying numbers point toward another difficult scoring night for the expansion franchise.

Despite their nickname, the Toronto Tempo showed very little get-up-and-go in their WNBA debut, which is a cause for concern offensively.

As the team's lack of scoring options was evident in the opener, my Storm vs. Tempo predictions trust the edge we have in the team total markets.

Storm vs Tempo prediction

Storm vs Tempo best bet: Tempo team total Under 85.5 (-147)

Toronto staying competitive in its debut masked some very real offensive concerns.

The Toronto Tempo shot just 27% from the floor against Washington.

Clean half-court possessions became difficult once the Mystics locked in defensively, and I thought Toronto looked uncomfortable anytime the initial action got disrupted.

The Tempo survived offensively through free throws and transition chances in a whistle-heavy environment.

Toronto still scored just 65 points despite attempting 35 free throws.

I also don’t expect the Seattle Storm to offer those same opportunities. The Storm already showed an ability to contain a similar Connecticut offense, holding the Sun to 40% shooting while allowing just 22 free throw attempts.

That’s concerning for a Toronto team that hit only five threes and still lacks consistent frontcourt scoring.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Among teams with at least two games played, Seattle is allowing opponents to shoot just 42% from two-point range — the best mark in the WNBA.

Storm vs Tempo same-game parlay

Marina Mabrey opened the season with 27 points against Washington, but she also finished with just two assists as Toronto’s offense struggled to generate consistent looks outside of her individual shot creation.

That’s a concern moving forward, especially after Brittney Sykes shot just 4-for-18 from the floor and 0-for-5 from three in the opener. Right now, the Tempo offense looks far more reliant on Mabrey creating difficult shots than functioning cohesively in the halfcourt.

As for Dominique Malonga, this matchup sets up well for a potential double-double. The rookie has grabbed seven and eight rebounds through her first two games, and Toronto’s frontcourt showed very little resistance physically in its debut.

Storm vs Tempo SGP

  • Mabrey Under 3.5 assists
  • Sykes Under 15.5 points
  • Malonga to record a double-double

Storm vs Tempo first basket scorer: Dominique Malonga (+375)

Dominique Malonga already looks like a focal point inside for Seattle, and this matchup sets up well against a Toronto frontcourt that struggled physically in its opener.

The Storm have opened the scoring in both games so far, so I expect them to look inside early so Malonga can help Seattle establish control around the rim.
