The Kentucky Wildcats sit sixth in the 2026 CFP rankings, but Saturday's game against the Tennessee Volunteers kickstarts the campaign's most difficult stretch.
My Kentucky vs. Tennessee prediction explains why I have to go against my heart and back the favored Volunteers (-6.5) to claim victory at home against their rivals.
Read on for my college football picks for this prime-time SEC showdown, kicking off at 6:15 p.m. ET on ESPN on Saturday, Nov. 7.
TOP PICK
Who will win Kentucky vs Tennessee: Tennessee -6.5
Tennessee's defense is the real deal and perfectly built to stifle Kentucky's offense, which is why I'm backing the Vols by a touchdown and trading this up to 56%.
The Vols rank third in average third-down distance and ninth in success rate. Their disgusting pass rush will be problematic for a Kentucky offense ranked 101st in extending drives.
Defensively, the Wildcats have thrived on timely turnovers to mask their 118th-ranked third-down defense and a secondary ranked 94th in passing success rate.
DeSean Bishop and Daune Morris will be called upon early and often to punish UK's thin linebacker depth as the Volunteers pull away late against a fatigued defense behind sustained long drives.

Kentucky vs Tennessee Over/Under pick: Under 49.5
For reasons I'll get to in a moment, I'm trading the Under at 52% and will go up to 54%.
Tennessee has been abysmal at times throwing the ball, ranking 121st in EPA per pass and 118th in success rate. That's a key reason the Vols rank 12th in rushing frequency at 60.5% per game.
I also expect both teams to struggle in obvious passing situations, as both offensive lines rank in the Bottom 25% in sack rate allowed.
But Tennessee's grinding offense, combined with the success I expect its defense to have, will keep this south of 50 points — a number only one of their SEC games has reached.
Kentucky vs Tennessee combo
I'm combining our side and total picks for a solid 3.47x payout.
Kentucky's lone defeat came against the Tide, who repeatedly ran the ball and simply wore down the Wildcats' defense after halftime.
If Tennessee finds similar success on the ground, the Vols can force Kentucky into obvious passing spots and get after Kenny Minchey with a pass rush ranked second nationally in sack rate.
