My Nebraska vs. Illinois prediction for this Friday night Big Ten matchup is that we should be in for a rock fight. The Cornhuskers bring an elite defense to Champaign, while Illinois' unit has looked much improved over the last three weeks.
However, my top Week 10 college football picks favor the Fighting Illini keeping this one close.
Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 6, on FOX.
TOP PICK
Who will win Nebraska vs Illinois: Illinois +4.5
Is Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule focusing on the task at hand? Or is the sideline boss debating whether he should step down? He threatened the possibility of the latter after his family was heckled amid the Cornhuskers' struggles.
Some will say he's coping. Others will say those hecklers need to get a life. I say, is Rhule worried about Illinois?
The Cornhuskers have lost three straight games, with those defeats coming against Indiana, Oregon and Washington. Despite those losses, Nebraska has been a covering machine, currently sitting at 6-2 against the spread.
On the other side, the Fighting Illini have been on a tear while riding a three-game winning streak after beating Michigan State, Oregon, and Maryland. Illinois boasts a better resume than the Cornhuskers during that stretch.
A 4.5-point spread feels like too much for a team that seems to hold plenty of momentum and motivation right now.
Illinois is playable down to -3.5.

Nebraska vs Illinois Over/Under pick: Under 50.5
For the Fighting Illini to keep this close, their defense will need to step up. Illinois is allowing 26 points and over 386 yards per game this season. However, over the school's last three games the defense has held opponents to just 21.2 points and 352 yards per outings, a drastic improvement.
On the other side, Nebraska's defense has been outstanding all season, allowing just 17 points and 280 yards per matchup. The Cornhuskers also own the No. 1 third-down defense in the country, permitting opponents to convert just 22.2% of their third-down attempts.
This is playable down to 48.
Nebraska vs Illinois combo
If Illinois can continue its recent success and show further improvement defensively, the Fighting Illini should be able to keep this one close against a team with a head coach who's threatening retirement.
Expecting both defenses to step up makes backing the Fighting Illini at +4.5 overall and +3.5 in the first half, and the Under on 50.5 for a 4.98x payout well worth the sweat.
