The Illinois Fighting Illini will look to pick up another Big Ten win on Saturday as they visit the Purdue Boilermakers at Ross-Ade Stadium.

Purdue has struggled to contain opposing offenses over the past two games, and I’m taking the Illini to cover in my Illinois vs. Purdue predictions.

Keep reading to get the full scoop on this Week 6 matchup in my free college football picks for October 4.

Illinois vs Purdue prediction

Illinois vs Purdue best bet: Illinois -9.5 (-118)

Ever since the Purdue schedule took a turn for the worse, the Boilermakers have had a tough time competing.

A 33-17 loss at home to USC was followed by a 26-point defeat to Notre Dame, with Purdue surrendering a combined 89 points in those two games.

The benefit of a bye week probably won’t be enough for Purdue to prepare for Illinois. The Illini are averaging 35.8 ppg, and outside of the surprising blowout defeat to the Indiana Hoosiers, no team has held them below 34 points.

Purdue is allowing an average of 6.1 yards per play, and it hasn’t been particularly effective against either the run or the pass. Those struggles have been especially pointed against the aerial attack, with the Boilermakers allowing opposing teams to complete 65.3% of their passes.

Illinois quarterback Luke Altmyer has been effective all season, throwing 11 touchdowns without an interception, and he is coming off a 328-yard performance against USC. Altmyer should lead the Illini to enough points to blow out a Purdue offense that’s been largely one-dimensional and lacking a ground game.

Illinois vs Purdue same-game parlay

I like the Illinois offense to roll in this matchup, doing enough to carry the Over with a little help from the Boilermakers.

Justin Bowick has scored in three of the first four games for the Illini this season, and his bet to pick up a touchdown on Saturday adds a lot of value to our SGP.

Our deep-ball SGP: All Illini

Purdue has struggled to move the ball in the running game, and Mockobee finished Under 57.5 yards in each of his last two games.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
