Bad weather and two talented defenses could lead to a low-scoring game between two of college football's greatest blue bloods.

One of the biggest games of the college football season is at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET (ABC) when Georgia and Alabama play for the 10th time in the Kirby Smart era.

The Crimson Tide are 1.5-point home favorites with College GameDay in town, and given Smart's struggles against them, my Georgia vs. Alabama prediction and college football picks project Kalen DeBoer's program to win a defensive battle in the downpour.

Who will win Georgia vs Alabama: Alabama ML

Kirby Smart has historically struggled against Alabama, and I like the Crimson Tide to cover up to -1.5, but would rather play it safe and take the Tide to win. Since taking over Georgia in 2017, Smart is 2-7 straight up against the Crimson Tide and 0-3 in the regular season since 2020.

With the Georgia vs. Alabama weather report calling for heavy rain and strong winds, this game will likely be low-scoring and come down to which offense can make more explosive plays late.

That gives the Crimson Tide the advantage, with Keelon Russell ranking third nationally in QBR (91.0) and Alabama's offense being 12th in the country in offensive success rate (51.2%). Georgia's defense hasn't faced an offense as loaded as Alabama's this season.

And against the lone quality defense Georgia QB Gunner Stockton has faced (Oklahoma), he struggled (65.7 QBR, 60.9% adjusted completion rate).

 TOP PICK
Georgia vs Alabama Over/Under pick: Under 51.5

The weather is expected to be as big a factor in this being a low-scoring game as these elite defenses. The game total has dropped from 56.5 to 51.5 (I like the Under at 51.5 or better), with Hurricane Isaias expected to make landfall near Alabama on Friday.

College GameDay even announced it's relocating Saturday morning's show inside due to the weather in Tuscaloosa. There's an 83% chance of precipitation with wind gusts of 19 mph at kickoff, which will only help these defenses shine.

Alabama's defense is ranked top 25 nationally in havoc rate (20%) and success rate (37.9%), while Georgia's defense is the best Russell has faced and maybe the best in the country. The Bulldogs' defense is ranked No. 1 by SP+.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Georgia and Alabama's defenses are the two best in the country at stopping the run, which will be key with the weather. The Bulldogs' defense ranks No. 4 nationally in rush success rate (31.1%), and the Crimson Tide ranks No. 9 (34.3%).

Georgia vs Alabama combo

This is by far the No. 1 must-watch game in my college football Top 25 predictions this week, and the weather adds an extra wrinkle.

Points will be hard to come by, especially early, as these offenses adjust to the wet conditions. However, the Crimson Tide have the advantage on offense with their QB.

Russell is more dynamic than Stockton and has been on another level in his last three games, with 13 total touchdowns and a 96.7+ QBR in each outing. He can make the difference late in a low-scoring game.
