Utah hosts BYU Saturday at noon ET on ABC at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City in what is being billed as the biggest matchup in Holy War history.

The Utes are 4.5-point home favorites on Nov. 7, and my BYU vs. Utah prediction and college football picks are backing Morgan Scalley to end his program's losing streak to its Beehive State rival.

 TOP PICK
Who will win BYU vs Utah: Utah -4.5

The last time Utah won the Holy War was in 2019, but Morgan Scalley can end the drought in his first season as the Utes' head coach. This is the first time in the history of the BYU vs. Utah rivalry that both programs are ranked in the top 10; however, only one of them has been surging lately.

In BYU's last two games, a loss to UCF and a shaky win over Arizona State, it looked like it shouldn't even be ranked. And with it unlikely that reigning Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year LJ Martin will play much in the Holy War, I like Utah to cover -6.5 or better.

The Utes are the more well-rounded team, with a defense that's ranked top 20 in points allowed per opportunity (2.70), success rate (39.4%), and third/fourth down success rate (37.7%).

Covers COVERS INTEL: Utah's run game has been one of the best in the country, sitting 19th in EPA per rush, while BYU has been inconsistent against the run, ranking 73rd in rush success rate on defense (45%).

BYU vs Utah Over/Under pick: Over 48.5

With BYU's defense looking flawed lately, I like the Over at 50.5 or better in this year's Holy War. The Cougars have hit the Over in three straight games, with their defense allowing 27.6 points per game in those contests.

Utah's offense is one of the best in the country and ranks top 10 in available yards percentage (59.3%) and third/fourth down success rate (54.7%).

Meanwhile, Bear Bachmeier and Legend Glasker should be able to lead BYU to 21+ to help this Over hit. He has the Cougars ranked sixth in the country in points per opportunity (4.76).

Utah and BYU are averaging more than 400 rushing yards per game combined, and those dominant run games have helped them both hit the Over in five of their eight matchups this season.

BYU vs Utah combo

Utah has been a machine this season, covering in seven of eight games, and it's one of just three undefeated teams in the country. It's also catching BYU at the perfect time, in the middle of an emotional roller coaster.

BYU has looked like a completely different team since upsetting No. 2 Notre Dame, with its defense unable to stop a UCF team using its backup QB and an Arizona State program starting a true freshman under center.

The Utes average 33.8 points per game against Big 12 opponents and are set to run wild on this defense. I expect Utah to pull away in a big way late after wearing down BYU's front seven with its run game.
