Our college basketball expert is backing the Terps in a game that may have more scoring than expected.

My Georgetown vs. Maryland prediction starts with a question neither opener settled: Can Georgetown keep Maryland off the offensive glass?

The Terrapins’ size gives them the edge in a close game, but the Hoyas have enough scoring inside and out to make the Over interesting.

Here are my free college basketball picks for Saturday, Nov. 7.

TOP PICK
Who will win Maryland vs. Georgetown: Maryland moneyline

The Maryland Terrapins have the better route to extra possessions, and I'll back them to win up to 62%.

Pharrel Payne is back after missing most of last season, and Andre Mills gives Buzz Williams another physical rebounder who can score without having a play drawn for him. The Georgetown Hoyas can counter Payne with Vince Iwuchukwu, so I’m not projecting anything like Maryland’s rebounding margin against Bucknell.

However, the harder matchup for Georgetown is containing Mills while staying attached to Maryland’s guards. Jaland Lowe gives the Hoyas a shot-maker who can keep this close at home, but Maryland has more ways to manufacture points when the first action fails.

I’ll take the Terps to win, but I’m less interested in asking them to cover a margin.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Maryland grabbed 28 offensive rebounds against Bucknell, its most in a game since 2012. Georgetown is a much tougher interior test, but that volume shows what Williams wants from this group. I project a shot volume edge here.

Maryland vs. Georgetown Over/Under pick: Over 146.5

Taking an Over with these two can be dangerous, but I like the paths. I'm on it to 54%.

Lowe can create off the dribble, while Iwuchukwu gives him a target inside who scored efficiently in the opener. That pairing should make Maryland defend more than one action on a possession.

At the other end, Georgetown allowed Loyola Maryland 12 offensive boards, a concern against Payne and Mills. The Hoyas also committed 20 fouls in that game. Maryland has the size to turn those interior contests into free throws.

I expect both teams to find points without relying on an unusually hot shooting night.

Maryland vs. Georgetown combo

Georgetown has a credible path to the halftime lead. Lowe can create a shot when the first action stalls, and Iwuchukwu gives the Hoyas an interior option against Maryland’s size.

The Terrapins were tied with Bucknell eight minutes into their opener before their depth and work on the glass took over. I’m backing a similar shift here.

Georgetown starts well at home, but Payne and Mills help Maryland generate enough second chances to win.
