Tennessee eyes its first Final Four in school history when it meets Michigan in the Elite Eight, but it faces a brutal stylistic matchup.

Teams that rely on interior offense often struggle against Michigan, and that shouldn’t change in this game

My Michigan vs. Tennessee predictions and March Madness picks break down why the Wolverines will cruise to victory this afternoon.

  • UPDATE: Added prediction for who will win.

Tennessee vs Michigan prediction

Who will win Tennessee vs Michigan?

Michigan: I’m not jumping in front of this Michigan freight train at the moment. The defense has had some questionable moments during the NCAA Tournament, but the offense has more than made up for them. Now I’m expecting the Wolverines to remind us again why they are viewed as a Top 5 defense by most efficiency metrics.

Tennessee vs Michigan best bet: Michigan -7.5 (-110)

It’s another matchup where the Michigan Wolverines present a style matchup issue that's hard to see being overcome.

The Tennessee Volunteers have a heavily-reliant rim offense with post-ups stealing the show. The Vols had the highest frequency of direct post-ups in the SEC this season, and have leaned on it more in the NCAA Tournament.

The problem for the Vols is that Michigan’s big lineup ranks in the 85th percentile of college basketball defensively against post-ups

On the other end, Michigan will score because they score against everyone (fourth nationally). I don’t think Tennessee finds enough offense to compete.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Michigan holds opponents to 0.54 points per possession on mid-range actions, and 0.59 PPP on inside-out plays. This will remove Tennessee's secondary creation paths entirely.

Tennessee vs Michigan same-game parlay

Nate Ament should really struggle here. Nobody personifies this Vols rim offense more than Ament. He’s the most efficient post-up scorer and thus gets the most of those looks, but Michigan will likely erase that.

I wonder how he’ll stand up to the physicality of this matchup, which makes it curious his point total is this high, given he hasn’t gone Over it in any tournament game.

Tennessee vs Michigan SGP

  • Michigan -7.5
  • Nate Ament Under 16.5 points

Our Big Dance SGP: More points for Morez

Another Tennessee game, and another Under.

The Vols will have no interest in turning this into an open-floor game, and I think they’ll do a good job controlling the pace. For the most part, both teams should do a good job defending the other's primary actions in the halfcourt, too.

I paired this with Morez Johnson to go Over his point total.

If you’re looking for the lone area that either team may struggle to defend, then it’s here. Tennessee has allowed nearly a point per possession on big cuts and rolls, and he’s one of the primary options off such actions.

Tennessee vs Michigan SGP

  • Michigan -7.5
  • Nate Ament Under 16.5 points
  • Under 146.5
  • Morez Johnson Over 12.5 points

Tennessee vs Michigan odds

  • Spread: Tennessee +7.5 | Michigan -7.5
  • Moneyline: Tennessee +260 | Michigan -330
  • Over/Under: Over 146.5 | Under 146.5
