The Trail Blazers enter tonight's NBA Cup clash against the Lakers with the utmost confidence, having beaten the purple and gold at home last week. Even down a key man, this NBA expert still likes Portland to prevail.

There's no need to ruin a good thing. My Trail Blazers vs. Lakers prediction has history repeating itself on Friday night in NBA Cup action, with the visitors from Rip City handing Los Angeles yet another loss on its home floor.

Portland is once again a 2.5-point underdog, with tipoff scheduled for 10 p.m. ET at Crypto.com Arena.

Let's dive into my analysis and NBA picks for Friday, Nov. 6.

 TOP PICK
Trail Blazers vs Lakers prediction: Trail Blazers +2.5

Play up to 55%.

The Portland Trail Blazers lit up the Los Angeles Lakers on Oct. 27 to the tune of 136 points on 59% shooting in a seven-point road victory. That remains the most points Los Angeles' current 21st-ranked defense (112.9 points allowed per 100 possessions) has given up this season.

The key difference tonight is that Portland will be without Ja Morant (hamstring), who poured in 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting that day. It will be the fourth straight game he's missed, yet the Trail Blazers are a perfect 3-0 straight up without him while scoring 119.5 points per 100 possessions (fourth).

Lakers superstar Luka Doncic has scored 40-plus points on five occasions, but the loss to Portland is the only time he reached that mark while coming out on the losing end. Even with Morant hurt, the Trail Blazers still boast five other players producing 12-plus points per contest. That offensive diversity gives them the edge here.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Doncic's usage rate is currently at 42.7%, which would set a new NBA record if it holds up. The Lakers own a net rating of 21.2 when he's on the floor, but that plummets to -17.5 whenever he sits.

Trail Blazers vs Lakers combo

With the spread as tight as it is, tossing in a moneyline makes all the sense in the world to maximize value, especially knowing it connected just over a week ago.

A 136-129 result equates to 265 points, well over Friday's number of 232.5 points. When two teams sitting first and second in points per game are going head-to-head, it feels that much safer to lean toward the Over.

Jrue Holiday recorded 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting for the second unit against the Lakers, which was the second time in four tries with Portland that he's dropped at least that many in this matchup.

  • Over 232.5 points
  • Jrue Holiday Over 13.5 points

Trail Blazers vs Lakers player props

Trail Blazers player prop: Robert Williams III Over 6.5 rebounds

Play up to 62%.

It's a crapshoot projecting numbers for someone like Robert Williams III, as he's averaging his fewest minutes since his sophomore season at 16.7 as a reserve for Portland.

Even in a somewhat limited capacity, Williams III is still crashing the glass for 7.2 rebounds per contest, and his season high of 10 came against the Lakers in just over 20 minutes of action.

He and teammate Donovan Clingan each posted double-digit boards on Oct. 27, accounting for more than half (20) of Portland's 38 in total.

Lakers player prop: Sandro Mamukelashvili Over 7.5 points

Play up to 55% and 9.5 points.

Sandro Mamukelashvili is coming off his worst showing as a Laker on Wednesday against the Sacramento Kings, hitting two free throws for a pair of points and missing all four of his field-goal attempts, including three from behind the arc.

The potential to bounce back is high here, as the last time the 27-year-old forward recorded a weak offensive display (four points on Oct. 30), he put up 11 the very next game on an efficient 4-of-7 shooting.

He's contributed eight-plus points in five of his last seven appearances overall, and Mamukelashvili should get enough looks and see enough time to continue that trend on Friday.
