The Timberwolves have been looking to push the pace without Anthony Edwards in the lineup, and that's why we're trading the Over in tonight's game in Houston.

The Houston Rockets (-7.5) will try to continue their hot start as they host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night.

Minnesota is looking to push the pace now that they're missing one of their stars, and that has me backing the Over in my Timberwolves vs. Rockets prediction below.

Read on to see my free NBA picks for Wednesday, Nov. 4.

 TOP PICK
Timberwolves vs Rockets prediction: Over 221.5

The Minnesota Timberwolves have lost a key contributor with the injury to Anthony Edwards, but the team has made a concerted effort to keep up their scoring output by increasing their pace of play.

Since Edwards stopped playing to undergo knee surgery, Minnesota has hit the Over in three of four games, and is still putting up 116.0 ppg in his absence.

The Houston Rockets are more defensive-minded, but they've also hit the Over in five of eight games this year. While they rank near the bottom of the league in pace metrics, they have been forced into higher-scoring, faster games against teams like the Dallas Mavericks and Milwaukee Bucks.

Minnesota will push the pace, and Houston will have little trouble playing along. I like the Over at up to 222.5 points.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Houston and Minnesota are both top 10 teams in offensive rating this season, with the Rockets ranking second (121.4) and the Timberwolves ninth (116.1).

Timberwolves vs Rockets combo

Along with the Over, I'm also backing the Rockets to cover tonight. The loss of Edwards has weighed heavily on the Timberwolves, who have lost three of their last five games. Houston is 7-1 ATS this season, and I see the Rockets winning comfortably at home tonight.

I'll also take Alperen Sengun to score at least 20 points in this game. I'm expecting a higher pace than usual for a Rockets game, and Sengun is already averaging 23.3 ppg this season. The center has put up 23+ points four times in his first six games, and I'm expecting that trend to continue here.

Timberwolves vs Rockets combo

  • Over 221.5
  • Rockets -7.5
  • Alperen Sengun Over 19.5 points

Timberwolves vs Rockets player props

Timberwolves player prop: LaMelo Ball Over 19.5 points

With Edwards out of the lineup, LaMelo Ball will be expected to take on more significant usage in the Minnesota offense going forward. And while his primary contribution was meant to be as a distributor, he's been pushing his scoring numbers up since the Edwards injury.

In his last three games, Ball has scored 24+ twice, including putting up 34 points in just 33 minutes against the Bucks on Monday. He took 21 shots -- including 13 threes -- in that game, and while he might not get that many attempts off every night, it's a sign of things to come for the Timberwolves.

I'm trading on Ball to score 20+ points at up to 55%.

Rockets player prop: Fred VanVleet Over 2.5 threes

Fred VanVleet has always been a reliable three-point shooter, hitting 37.1% from deep for his career. His volume has dipped in Houston later in his career, but we've seen him putting up more shots from beyond the arc in recent games.

VanVleet has taken at least eight shots from deep in his last three games, averaging three makes during that span. Overall, he's hit 3+ threes in three of his first six games, and more tellingly, he's taken at least six shots from three-point range in five of those contests.

I expect that volume to continue, and I like VanVleet to make 3+ threes tonight at up to 50%.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
