Betting trend to know

The Under is 8-1 in Miami's last nine road games. Find more NBA betting trends for Heat vs. Trail Blazers.

Against the spread (ATS) pick

The Heat are coming off a 110-104 win at home against the shorthanded Lakers on Thursday and have won five of their last six games, going 4-2 ATS over that span. The Blazers are fresh off a 118-103 win over the Pistons last night and are 6-3 SU and 5-4 ATS over their last nine games.

Both of these teams are in similar situations, sitting in sixth place in their respective conferences after dealing with injuries through most of the season.

The Blazers have been great at putting the ball in the basket, ranking fifth in the league in offensive rating but are 29th in the league in defensive rating. The Heat have been the opposite, ranking 25th in offensive rating and sixth in defense. While the Blazers are on the tail end of a back-to-back tonight they're also healthier than Miami at the moment and will be playing at home.

Portland is also a much better team when it comes to limiting turnovers and generating extra scoring chances, ranking among the top three teams in the league in both categories. The Heat struggle in both of those areas, ranking in the Bottom 5. That could be the edge in what should be a close contest. Back Portland on the moneyline.

PREDICTION: Portland ML (-106)

Over/Under pick

These teams tangled less than three weeks ago with Portland coming away with a 125-122 win on the road.

With their high-scoring offense and Downy-soft defense, the Blazers should be an Over bettor's dream but they've actually cashed the Under in five straight games at home.

The Heat have gone 8-1 to the Under in their previous nine games on the road, thanks in large part to their strong defensive play. Miami ranks third in the league by allowing just 105.3 points per game on the road while limiting opponents to 44.2 percent shooting.

The Heat also rank just 28th in the league in pace and despite the Blazers' high-scoring ways, they rank a modest 20th in the league in tempo. Expect an emphasis on defense after their previous shootout in Miami and take the Under.

PREDICTION: Under 221.5 (-110)

Player prop pick

Duncan Robinson scored 11 points on just five shots in Miami's game against the Lakers on Thursday, but the third-year swingman had scored at least 14 points in each of his previous six games.

Robinson was expected to see his minutes and shots go down after the acquisition of Victor Oladipo, but both he and Kendrick Nunn have been ruled out of today's game, while Tyler Herro is also listed as questionable.

Expect Robinson to pick up the scoring slack in their absence and take the Over 12.5 on his points total.

PREDICTION: Duncan Robinson Over 12.5 points (-120)

Heat vs Trail Blazers betting card

  • Portland ML (-106)
  • Under 221.5 (-110)
  • Duncan Robinson Over 12.5 points (-120)
