NBA Clutch Player of the Year Odds: Fox Among Favorites to Repeat

Few things in sports are as exhilarating as the back-and-forth brawl of a close NBA game in the fourth quarter, and the league decided to honor its best crunch-time performer by introducing the Clutch Player of the Year award last season.

Now, what exactly constitutes a "clutch" player can take on many definitions, but Sacramento's De'Aaron Fox swiftly swiped the inaugural trophy after comfortably leading this NBA odds market for most of 2023. 

With the market having been retired early at several books last season, can Fox dominate the Clutch Player of the Year odds again? He's been installed among the preseason favorites:

Favorite to win NBA Clutch Player of the Year

De'Aaron Fox (+1,200)

Given the context of the previous two decades, what the Sacramento Kings did last season was nothing short of astonishing.

Chief among those deserving blame was De'Aaron Fox, who led the league in clutch scoring by a wide margin and fueled many a Beam-lighting. 

With the Kings mostly running it back, Fox should be deployed in a similar role for late-game heroics, with Sacramento's high-octane offense and seeming ignorance to defense enabling lots of scoring in close games. 

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (+1,200)

If there's a team many talking heads are tabbing for a leap this season, it's the Oklahoma City Thunder, teeming with precocious talent. 

Of course, the most glaring reason for that optimism is reigning All-NBA First-Teamer Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, a usage magnet who nearly won the Most Improved Player award last season and might not have hit his ceiling yet, even as a 30+ ppg scorer. 

While OKC has a bevy of young contributors who could grow into bigger roles this season, the offense should still run primarily through Shai, especially in the late stages of close games, where he's shown a propensity to cook. 

Look for SGA's dominant run with Canada in the FIBA World Cup to only inspire more confidence in big moments.

Luka Doncic (+1,200)

Luka Doncic has to be here, if for no other reason than he's likely more singularly important to his team's offense than any player in the league outside of Nikola Jokic.

The ball will be in Luka's hands invariably when the game is on the line, and, more often than not, he makes something magical happen. 

What's more, the Mavericks played in an NBA-high 55 games that qualified for the league's clutch stats last season, providing a larger sample of Doncic late-game exploits. 

Understanding NBA Clutch Player of the Year odds

As the season progressed, with Fox having been a huge favorite, his odds had a minus (-) sign ahead of the number:
