Rangers vs Penguins Game 6 picks and predictions

Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.

Moneyline analysis

This series has been complete madness as it is, and I think tonight is going to be an absolute bloodbath between the Rangers and the Penguins. Jacob Trouba had a questionable hit on Sidney Crosby in Game 5 and they may have completely changed the momentum in this series.

Crosby is out for Game 6 and that might suck the life out of this Pittsburgh Penguins team. Louis Domingue is once again the expected starter for the Penguins, but Tristan Jarry was on the ice at the morning skate so if they feel he is ready, he might make his first appearance of this year's playoffs.

Domingue had been holding his own throughout the first four games of the series, but he fell apart in the second half of Game 5, allowing four goals on 33 shots. Igor Shesterkin had a very strong bounce-back game after struggling in both games in Pittsburgh. Shesterkin made 29 saves on 32 shots and helped secure the win to keep the Rangers alive.

The Rangers found their scoring touch and without Crosby in the lineup, I’m not sure who will spark the offense for the Penguins. I think the Rangers force a Game 7 here.

Prediction: Rangers moneyline (-130 at DraftKings)

Over/Under analysis

Defense and goaltending have not been at it’s best in this series. The Over has hit in all five games of this series thus far and there has been a total of 42 goals scored. Domingue is only sporting a .900 save percentage and a 3.56 GAA, while Shesterkin is at a .905 save percentage with a 3.99 GAA.

That being said, with Sidney Crosby out of the lineup, it will be interesting to see how the Penguins' offense is able to adjust without their star player and catalyst. The Penguins have led the entire playoffs in high-danger chances, averaging almost 20 per game and they have been the second-best team in terms of offensive production, averaging 4.6 goals per game.

The Rangers have picked up their offensive play, but it hasn’t been anywhere near as consistent as the Penguins. The Rangers are averaging 3.8 goals per game, but are only generating 9.71 high-danger chances.

It’s hard to imagine this game staying under with how the first five games have gone. Look for the Over to hit again.

Prediction: Over 6 (-120 at DraftKings)

Best bet

The momentum in this series has shifted in the Rangers' favor after their big come-from-behind win, as well as the injury to Crosby. Sid the Kid was leading the Penguins in scoring with two goals and seven assists early in the postseason, so it will be interesting to see if anyone someone steps up in his absence.

Throughout the series, it has appeared that the Penguins are getting more prone to injury while the Rangers are starting to get healthier. Tyler Motte has been cleared and is an option for the Rangers tonight, and he will be a huge addition to their lineup.

The only concern about this game is Shesterkin. In the first two games in Pittsburgh, the netminder did not have a good showing, but he has been resilient all season long and his teammates believe in him to get the job done.

Still, considering the Penguins will be without both Crosby and Jarry, I'll take the Rangers to pull off the huge road win.

Pick: Rangers moneyline (-130 at DraftKings)
