Maple Leafs vs Coyotes Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Auston Goes For 50

Auston Matthews storms the desert as the Leafs travel to face the Coyotes. The Arizona native has been on fire of late and the Yotes look like easy pickings after losing 10 in a row. Matthews is one tally away from 50 on the season. Does he get it tonight?

Latest NHL Picks

We’ve got five games on the NHL docket tonight, including a matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Arizona Coyotes.

The Desert Dogs have lost 10 straight games, and the NHL odds suggest the Leafs will make it 11 in a row with a red-hot offense and Auston Matthews on milestone watch.

Maple Leafs vs Coyotes odds

Maple Leafs vs Coyotes predictions

The Toronto Maple Leafs have won four in a row. Meanwhile, the Arizona Coyotes are on the other end of things, marred by a 10-game losing streak, struggling to keep the puck out of the net.

The Yotes have allowed a league-high 46 goals during this losing skid, giving up 4+ in seven of their last 10, while allowing 35.9 shots per game, which is dead last in the NHL. In addition to giving up the most shots on net over this losing streak, the Yotes rank 29th in scoring chances against and have given up the seventh-most high-danger chances, according to Natural Stat Trick.

This should have the Maple Leafs salivating as their red offense rolls into town on a heater. Toronto has won four in a row and scored four or more goals in six of their last seven. I think they do it again, and I expect the hometown hero — and the league's leading goal scorer — Auston Matthews to light the lamp.

The Arizona product returns home to play his childhood team, and Matthews is on milestone watch, needing just one more goal to hit 50 on the year. I think he’d like to hit that milestone in Arizona in front of friends and family tonight.

Matthews is a volume shooter, ranking fourth in the NHL with 228 registered shots and 85 being considered high-danger. That should bode well in this matchup against a team that can’t buy a save right now. The Coyotes have used a trio of goaltenders over this 10-game losing streak, with a combined save percentage of .871. The last thing any of those goalies want to see tonight is Matthews winding up for a rip.

My best bet: Auston Matthews anytime goal (-130 at SIA)

Maple Leafs vs Coyotes same-game parlay

Auston Matthews anytime goal

Maple Leafs TT Over 3.5

Maple Leafs score first

For leg one of my same-game parlay, we’ll tag along with my best bet and roll with an anytime goal from the league's best scorer.

Next up, let’s go with the Over on the Leafs total tonight of 3.5 goals. Toronto has scored 4+ goals in five of their last six games, while the Coyotes are giving up 4.6 goals per game over their last 10 games. The Leafs should score early and often.

Speaking of scoring early, for my final leg, let’s keep with the theme of the Leafs offense and take them to score first. Toronto has opened the scoring in 31 out of 54 games this season (57%), while the Yotes have allowed the first goal in 58% of their games.

Maple Leafs vs Coyotes moneyline and Over/Under analysis

The Maple Leafs come into tonight as heavy favorites on the road at -225, with the Coyotes as +180 home dogs. I’m a little surprised the Leafs aren’t favored a bit more, but perhaps that is because the books are taking into account the Yotes' four-game winning streak over the Buds, with each win being as an underdog of +246 or higher. That said, the Leafs are playing some good hockey while Arizona has been the worst team in the NHL over the past calendar month.

If you’re going to back the Buds tonight, you might as well take them on the puck line. The Yotes are 3-7 against the spread during this losing streak. The Leafs have covered in three of four games on this winning streak.

The total for tonight’s game is set at 6.5 goals, shading towards the Over at -125, while the Under is at +105. Historically, the Under is 3-6-1 over the last 10 meetings between these two teams. However, with Toronto’s offense and power play firing the way they are and Arizona’s inability to keep pucks out of the net, I’m inclined to take the Over here tonight.
