A pair of rolling offenses meet at Amerant Bank Arena with the Montreal Canadiens visiting the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, December 30.

However, my Canadiens vs. Panthers predictions and NHL picks are calling for a close, low-scoring game in The Sunshine State tonight.

Canadiens vs Panthers prediction

Canadiens vs Panthers best bet: Under 6.5 (-115)

The Montreal Canadiens have a tough test at Amerant Bank Arena tonight, with the Florida Panthers rolling along their best stretch of the season.

Florida has cruised to a 9-3 mark while scoring the third-most goals per game (3.83) and sporting the third-highest team shooting percentage (11.6%) at 5-on-5. Considering the Cats ranked 21st in goals per game (2.92) with a 15th-ranked 9.3 shooting percentage at 5-on-5, the uptick in offense is likely to prove unsustainable long term, and likely in short order.

After all, Florida has also generated fewer expected goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 during the highlighted heater than through the first 26 games of the season.

Montreal has been one of the highest scoring teams all year and has a 24-11-3 record to the Over while ranking fifth in goals per game (3.29). Still, I’m anticipating the Habs having difficulty generating consistent chances against the Cats on the highway.

Florida ranks fifth in both Corsi For percentage and expected goals percentage at 5-on-5 on home ice, and I’m expecting improved play from No. 1 goalie Sergei Bobrovsky moving forward. He’s sporting his lowest SV% of his career (.888) through 27 appearances after posting a .909 mark over the prior four seasons.

Canadiens vs Panthers same-game parlay

The Habs have been rolling along their own nice little stretch with an active 6-3-3 record during the same timeframe, and Montreal has covered the puck line in 29 of their past 45 road games (+7.55 Units / 10% ROI). Additionally, as noted, Florida has a splash statistical correction coming to the offense.

Canadiens winger Cole Caufield paces the club in both shots and attempts per 60 minutes, and he’s recorded three or more shots in eight of his past 13 games. The go-to winger is also a primary shooter on the No. 1 power-play unit, and he leads the Habs in Corsi For percentage at 5-on-5.
